Lafan9
Kings fans now seem to appreciate the young talent that their team has, especially when they face the Lakers. The Lakers obviously have a huge target on their back with arguably the best player on the planet on their squad to add turmoil. However, with the addition of Tyreke Evans, who one can make a strong case of him being R.O.Y, and young stars coming into form, added on to the fact that the Lakers are the Lakers and every team out there wants to whoop em, will the Lakers-Kings rivalry resume? And why or why not? To those who think the Kings are not worthy enough to be the Lakers rivals, take into consideration the fact that Tyreke did not play well, Kevin Martin was injured, though Artest did not play either. The future macthups between the two teams have the potential to be highly competitive imo. I'll recall the rivalry that pre-existed to those who can't remember and I don't think the rivarly can get back to where it used to be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbcv9CZR-0Q Edited December 28, 2009 by Lafan9
Sky
Not renewed yet. Sac will need to deal KMart and have another great draft to take a necessary step forward as a legit rival again. Young core also needs to mature. At least now they have a solid coach and a good talent foundation. The Kings have taken many strides forward this year. kingfish
No sir. As Kobe said years ago, its not even a rivalry, they have to beat us first in order to be a rivalry. We beat them countless times in playoff series and they never had any retalliaton. And besides, those were the days of C-Webb, Bibby, Christie, Peja, they were bad boys that could keep up with the Lakers. Nowadays guys like Spencer Hawes, Beno Udrih, and Tyreke Evans cant really create a competition with the Lakers. They need an established superstar or some solid veterans to make it a one sided rivalry again.
Newman
...maybe when Kobe is around 36 years old or when someone on the Kings (most likely Tyreke) make the All-Star team.
Owner Real Deal Posted December 29, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 You could probably consider them a rival a few years down the road, but not yet. If anyone out West, I'd say Denver, for the simple fact that we swept them in the first round two years ago, took them out in the WCF just last year, and if we were to meet them once again? I'd say that looks more like the Lakers/Kings rivalry we had going back in the Kobe/Shaq era.
Lafan9
Yeah I'd include the Blazers as well, simply based on the fact that we can't beat them at their place Talent wise the Kings may not be at our levels, but they play hard enough to make a game out of playing us, at first I dismissed the thought of them being considered a rival(mostly because of the Lakers complacency) but the Lakers see this team a lot during the course of the year, it's not like when they play the Bobcats and they get lackadaisical, the kings put up a fight, but whatever, this could be me just wanted to see the rivalry again
Owner Real Deal Posted December 29, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 Sacramento seems to feed off of their home crowd no matter who they play. Their record may not show that they are the best home team in the league, but they make games tough when they are in Arco Arena, win or lose. It reminds me of the Utah Jazz, really...although, at one point a couple years back, they were running a really solid home record against some of the best teams in the NBA. Most definitely, the Kings and the Blazers are those young teams that play extremely well off the energy that their fans give them. The blazers we can't seem to beat at their place as I said but we handle them fairly easily at home. However I remember a game last year when the Kings just wouldn't go away as our bench came in and I think that really sparked the Lakers complacency thing (that game was early last year can't remember the exact date), but the point I'm trying to get at is the Kings are sure not going to bow down to the Lakers from now on and the Lakers have to realize that
