La Bomba
It should come as no surprise that the Grizzlies won't be among those teams pursuing Houston's Tracy McGrady. McGrady was granted an indefinite leave as the Rockets work to trade the disgruntled guard and his expiring league-high $23.2 million contract. But word on NBA streets is that Houston wants expiring contacts and one or two young players. That's an asking price the Griz can't meet because they aren't willing to part with Rudy Gay or any of their talented core. Plus, the Griz don't have large enough expiring contracts. Stephen Hunter ($3.7 million) won't cut it. What the Griz can't say publicly is the main reason they aren't interested. Privately, the organization wonders how much McGrady has left following microfracture surgery, and is T-Mac (someone who has never won a playoff series) the right "star" to elevate Memphis at this point and time? Those are big doubts for a guy who would play half a season for your team and then become an unrestricted free agent next summer. http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/the_memphis_edge/2009/12/t-mac-not-on-griz-mind.html
