The Goods
The Lakers still want Lamar Odom back, but the free-agent forward will have to lower this asking price. Odom is believed to be looking for $10 million annually, but the Lakers are already about $10 million into the luxury tax. Luxury tax is paid for in a dollar-for-dollar penalty, so signing Odom for $10 million next season would result in a bill of $20 million. The Los Angeles Times suggested a compromise on Friday night. The Lakers can sign Odom to a one-year deal worth $7.5 million, allowing him to test free agency again next summer. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60328/20090704/lakers_still_want_odom_back/
JWaLL
They will definitely need him as a backup to Artest next season if they want a chance at making the Finals. Who would be Artest's backup if he didn't resign?
The Artesticle
I'm really not worried about LO. Pretty sure he will be back. 10 million is too high, but that's why you negotiate unlike David Lee. Most teams with cap space already spent, and those who haven't don't want to use their money on him anyways. I'm guessing he'll resign to a 7-8 million dollar deal. Another rumor I've heard is that he signs a 1 year deal, and tests the market again next offseason. By then, we'll have Fish, Morrison, and Farmar off the books, nearly 15 million wiped off the slate. I'm guessing we retain him anyways. ChosenOne
If he wants a ring he will take a pay cut, and not ask for 10+ million.
alcstarheel
I see him staying. But I'm not sure if he's going to take a pay cut and not expect that starting role this season. He took his lumps last season coming off the bench. I think he's going to come back to Mitch saying "I wrote my check last year, now you right yours." Hopefully he concedes slightly. Lkr
I think he'll come back, especially with his good pal Artest on the team now. I hear he was very excited to have Artest on the team, which would result in him being very dumb to not return

Odom doesn't play center lol. He's a primary PF/SF. That's why I was asking who would be Artest's backup if he didn't resign. Morrison?
