Guest The Situation
I don't like it and thin the league needs to do something about it. Edited January 4, 2010 by The Situation
The Regime
If it was up to me I would make every starter play for all 16 games, but the fact of the matter is if you have earned a good enough record then it's up to the coach if he wants to play the starters. Sitting the starters when you dont need them is def the smart thing to do. How would you change the league to make it so the starters have to play, I cant think of any way? Guest The Situation
There was a few things thrown out there. - refunding a percentage of the tickets to the fans that attended that game. - awarding teams with extra late draft picks who go undefeated. - awarding teams with an amount of cash incentives that go undefeated. fly3rs18
refunding tickets isnt a bad idea, but i think the other ones are just stupid. there is no difference between this and benching starters in the preseason
Check my Stats
Lol honestly I don't follow football die-hard but I still consider myself a relatively casual fan. But to suggest that a team that has dominated and earned a top seed be forced to play their best players, and at the same time risk those guys getting hurt for the playoffs, is absolutely absurd. These teams have dominated and earned the right to not only rest their guys but to also protect them from a potentially season ruining injury. This is like suggesting if a team's best player got hurt in the NBA and the team should offer to refund their tickets. Absolutely silly IMO. Honestly, who cares about the fans. If they can't see past their own selfishness of what is best for the team and are actually mad that they can't see Peyton Manning play (in the assumed example), what kind of fans are they? reno
True fans would rather watch backups play than see their star player get injured in a meaningless game before the playoff hunt. Though the situation may vary, sometimes resting players can work against you as they may become rusty or unprepared for the playoff game. Dash
Texans had to play the Colts twice (both times they played their starters) and beat the Bengals in a competitive game. Yet the Jets make the playoffs BECAUSE they beat the same two teams, who just happened to be playing their backups. Is that really fair? There are only 16 games in a NFL season, each game counts and teams can easily get screwed over like the Texans.
Lone Wolf
Yes to sitting them and no to refunding tickets. You'd rather watch your favorite players over keeping them healthy? Wes Walker anyone?

Dash
Really? I think its more unfair to Texans fans to miss the playoffs entirely because the Colts decided to rest Peyton Manning. Force them to play their starters, they only play 16 regular season games anyway. Edited January 6, 2010 by Dash
La Bomba
It's not like they're tanking. The teams that have locked up a playoff spot have earned the right to do what ever they want with their players. One bad injury can cost a team's Super Bowl hopes. Imagine if Bress or Manning weren't able to play in the playoffs for their teams.

I think its more unfair to Texans fans to miss the playoffs entirely because the Colts decided to rest Peyton Manning. Force them to play their starters, they only play 16 regular season games anyway. Cool story. Maybe if you hadn't let Peyton Manning come back from double digits in the game in Houston, we wouldn't be in this situation, would we? 8-8 is not good enough for the playoffs this year. Jenneral
The thought of forcing teams to start their starters for all 16 games is absolutely absurd. They can do whatever the hell they want. They have a playoff spot locked up, why risk losing your players in a meaningless game? It's the teams and coaches decision, no one else's. In the NBA, a starter such as Kobe or LeBron can be benched, there's no rule stating they have to start all 82 games. So why should that be any different in the NFL? Get real people. Dash
Texans fault, they should have won more games and they would not have been in that situation. Is it the Texans fault they had to play those teams early on the season? Teams by the way, the Jets would have likely lost to. Did you see that final game by the way? Down three touchdowns and we make a miracle comeback against the Patriots, definitely looked like a playoff team. It's not like they're tanking. The teams that have locked up a playoff spot have earned the right to do what ever they want with their players. One bad injury can cost a team's Super Bowl hopes. Imagine if Bress or Manning weren't able to play in the playoffs for their teams. I don't care. The Bengals basically got to pick their first round matchup Sunday. They went with the Jets because they did lose to the Texans earlier in the season. Is that fair to the rest of the league? Cool story. Maybe if you hadn't let Peyton Manning come back from double digits in the game in Houston, we wouldn't be in this situation, would we? 8-8 is not good enough for the playoffs this year. Texans went 9-7, which was good for the playoffs. In the NBA, a starter such as Kobe or LeBron can be benched, there's no rule stating they have to start all 82 games. So why should that be any different in the NFL? The NBA plays 82 games not 16 which gives them more reason to bench their players due to the long season. The league doesn't have to force them all to play but something should be done imo.
EastCoastNiner
You're just being a bitter fan. If teams have a hot start, then good for them, and they can have an advantage towards the end of the season by benching their starters and keeping their players healthy. Also, giving draft picks for going undefeated is flat out dumb.
Dash
Whatever I'm done. Yeah I am bitter but I got it out of my system. I'm more pissed off at Kris Brown for costing us crucial games.
