Phightins
This team is taking names like I have never seen them do before.
Phightins
Best record in baseball if the Yankees and Twins scores hold up. Also, the Mets are pussies. They have a lot more to "reevaluate" than slides into 2nd base, and I dare them to throw at Utley tomorrow.
Phightins
Can't wait for tomorrow, BTW. Mets pissed at the Phillies for the Utley slide, Phillies pissed at the Mets for the "icing" of Lidge with that pinch runner, and oh yeah, the division title may be there for the taking. Phightins
So happy you didn't clinch the division against the Mets Yeah the Mets are the only team that's been able to beat the Phillies recently. Lets hope we don't get matched up with you in the playoffs! I kid, I kid.

Lone Wolf
Boy, this team is scary. Grats on the clinch.
Phightins
Yep, considering where this team was two months ago, to have the division and homefield throughout the playoffs clinched with 5 games to go is kind of remarkable. Built Ford Tough
NLDS Rotation:Game 1: Roy HalladayGame 2: Roy OswaltGame 3: Cole HamelsGame 4: Roy HalladayGame 5: Roy Oswalt I dig it. That is just unfair. I'm definitely pulling for the Phillies in the playoffs though. I would love to see Halladay win a World Series after the career that he has had. It is about time that he will be making an appearance in the postseason. Edited October 1, 2010 by Built Ford Tough
Phightins
The Phillies will finish with the best record in baseball for the first time ever. Sweet.
Phightins
So, last night the Phillies drew a higher local TV rating than the Eagles. This is monumental. 2 years ago there was an identical situation. Phillies had a chance to clinch the NLDS vs. Milwaukee on TBS and the Eagles had a regular season game at the same time on network TV, and the Eagles ratings crushed the Phillies. Totally the opposite last night. Football town my [expletive]!
Cobb
^No one was going to watch the Eagles because Vick wasn't playing. :glasses:
Phightins
The prospect of a Halladay-Lincecum game 1 matchup makes me really upset that I did not purchase postseason tickets this year.

Phightins
Forgot to post this yesterday. Kyle Kendrick added to NLCS roster, Greg Dobbs dropped. It's obvious why Kendrick is needed (they only needed 3 SPs in the NLDS, so they only kept 10 pitchers and used Joe Blanton was used as the long man, and now that Blanton is in the rotation, they need an 11th pitcher). So, it was between Dobbs and Dom Brown for that final bench spot. I obviously think Dom Brown is a much better baseball player than Greg Dobbs, but the fact is, Dobbs is an infielder, so leaving him off the roster leaves them with just one reserve infielder, and two starting infielders fighting injury. So it's a huge risk. Personally, I'd have kept Dobbs and excluded Brown. Brown probably gets 2 plate appearances this entire series tops and is not a very good outfielder/instinctual baserunner, so it's not like they can use him as a defensive replacement/pinch runner with much confidence. He is not even the top lefty on the bench. His purpose will be to bat if the Phillies are down in the 5th or 6th inning and in a "home run" situation. If it ever gets to that point, where we need to get a starting pitcher out that early, we are probably [expletive]ed anyway. Whatever, hopefully none of this presents itself as an issue! Phightins
It can still be done. [expletive]ed by bad decisions and bad umpires tonight. Halladay, Oswalt, Hamels. If anybody can make it happen, it is those 3.
Phightins
It is super rare for the Phillies to have a "total team loss". That is what tonight is. Everybody [expletive]ed up. Top to bottom. Joe Blanton and Ryan Madson get props. That's it.

Phightins
Weirdest season ever. Looked like they weren't going to be in the postseason 3 months ago. I have thought for a while that the Giants might be the toughest playoff matchup for this team in all of baseball. This is going to be a super-long winter, and I already cannot wait for the day pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater. Hopefully the Flyers, Eagles, and Sixers do their best to get me through this winter. Anyway...Jayson Werth, it's been real. Good luck in Boston/Anaheim/whereever you wind up. Thank you for the past 4 seasons, you earned every dime and then some. I know that a lot of the knee jerk Phillies fans are looking for wholesale changes here, but that will not happen nor should they. The only changes I can foresee are obviously in RF, short relief, and probably 5th starter. Dom Brown will obviously go into spring training with the RF job being his to lose. Ben Francisco will likely get a lot of playing time, as will whichever free agent they bring in (maybe a Marcus Thames type). Vance Worley appears primed to take a spot in the starting rotation, and talent-wise anyway, he'd appear to be a huge upgrade over Kyle Kendrick. I think Scott Downs would complete this bullpen, but he is probably out of the Phillies price range. Anyway, looking ahead, as long as the Big Three remains healthy it is hard to count this team out. The offense is painfully inconsistent, but there will not/cannot be significant changes. The window is closing, but it should be open for the next two years or so. I might have more to say later, but for now I am very disappointed.
Phightins
Also, it is time for a "true leadoff hitter". That would solve so many of the offenses inconsistency problems, I think, if they had a legitimate leadoff hitter and Placido Polanco hitting 1 and 2. Jimmy Rollins was never a true leadoff hitter even in his prime, and now his speed is basically gone, so the one asset he brought to the position isn't there anymore. Since they are locked into big contracts across the board, I'm not sure how they will fit a new leadoff hitter in. Maybe they have to trade Vic. Phightins
Davey Lopes not returning next season. Huge loss. Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, and Chase Utley all credit him with turning them into respectable base stealers. The team stolen base % was through the roof in his time here. A good first base coach might be the most underrated coaching position in all of sports. Davey is a great dude too, he is going to be missed for sure. Phightins
This happened last night, but Jamie Moyer re-injured his elbow in the Dominican League. Probably a career-ender. Sad way for him to go out. Hell of a career, if it is indeed finished.
