How bad would we be without Kobe?

I didn't have time to watch the game tonight, but I heard that Kobe left late in the third quarter and didnt return. As a result we ended up getting our [expletive] kicked. This made me think, how bad would we be without Kobe? I'm thinking no more than 45 wins. Gasol would be the focal point of the offense, but outside him I dont see alot of contributions. Bynum as we know can't play alongside Gasol so he would basically be a non-factor. Fish sucks. Artest is a mediocre number two, which I think he would have to be. I'm not so sure if we would play Shannon Brown at the two or move Artest there and have Odom start at the three, but either way Odom is inconsistent so we cant expect much from him. And the bench as we know it, wouldnt do [expletive]. Honestly we are one and done in the playoffs.

Well it depends on our health. If we cannot get healthy, then yes we're gonna suck.

But if we have everyone healthy minus Kobe, I think we may obtain a high 30, low 40 win record (at best), which basically guarantees a spot in the playoffs in the horrible east.

I don't know what more you'd expect.

C - Bynum

PF - Gasol/Odom

SF - Artest

SG - Brown

PG - Fisher

That's a 40-win team, no playoffs in the West. It's been proven that Bynum and Gasol can't co-exist (you'd see that if you just watch us with both in the game), and Gasol has never attempted more than 15 shots in his career, even when he was the sole primary option on the Grizzlies.

Jackson would have to put Bynum on the bench, start Gasol at the five and play Odom in the starting lineup, if he wanted to win more than 40...and I'm not even sure that would work out too well.

Hard to tell? I'm assuming management would acquire another star if you had no Kobe. :P

Lol, I think he's referring to Kobe's injury that he got in the 3rd quarter tonight.

Assuming he has to sit out a few games, and with Pau still not back, it's not looking too good for you guys. With your top 2 go-to guys not on the floor, your scoring options are very limited.

Oh, sorry. I thought he meant if they never had him. Well, without Kobe on the floor scoring would obviously be an issue. The bench also is a major factor here.

The Lakers may be about to find out just how bad they would become sans Bryant. The finger is obviously bothering him and back spasms can't just be shaken off. May be necessary to sit Kobe, which will no doubt be against his wishes. The problem is it coincides with one of the toughest schedules they'll face this year.

No Kobe kills them offensively. It leaves them with no guards that can create off the dribble, no guards that can pass consistently, no guards that can attract a double. Everything they do is predicated on Kobe. It's how Jackson gets away with having no point guard for over a decade. If Kobe has to sit they may need to start Farmar if just to have some penetration ability on the floor. No Kobe and starting Fisher would get ugly fast.

You know what's crazy about all of that? Many were angry that the Lakers had the easy home games to start the season...and now I wonder how they feel about us dipping into the worst part of our schedule, loaded with away games and strong teams, when everyone is injured.

And that's spot-on about Fisher. He's a terrible defensive player and just as bad offensively. I've always said that, yes, he hits clutch shots...but the only reason he does is because he has to, by not playing like a starting point for the other 30+ minutes he is out on the floor.

You know what's weird about this? It seems like two years ago, and maybe last year, many people would be saying that a team of Gasol, Odom, and Bynum could make the playoffs.

Now we're second-guessing a team of Gasol, Odom, Artest and Bynum could get in.

Sounds crazy...but with our bigs not working well together, Fisher being a matador and not a traditional point, and our bench just flat out sucking...it would be quite the reach.

Should definitely be a playoff team, they have more than enough talent to be. Would just be a question whether they could put it together though. This team has twice the talent, without Kobe, the Rockets do and Rockets are in the playoff mix.

The Lakers bench is pretty crappy though so that could be a problem.

Pau should be the focal point in the offense and don't forget that Artest has a few years of experience as a primary option. As long as Odom and Bynum play decent, you guys are a playoff team for sure.
