Despite one of the lowest winning percentages of the decade, the Chicago Bulls have had one of the highest rates of attendance over the same span. The United Center held 21,711 + standing room for the majority of the 2000s, and Chicago averaged 20,858 fans a night, even selling out as they went 32-132 in 2000 and '01 (one of the worst 2-year stretches by any team in NBA history). They are the only team out of the 4 sports that if the team is horrible the attendance will be extremely low. No matter how bad the Eagles, Flyers, and Phils the seats are always filled. DC is a basketball town, it has been since Abe Pollin bought the franchise and moved it to Washington DC. We have so many fans, from DC, Maryland, and Virginia, plus all over the country, so we're at a slight advantage. I haven't look at any numbers from ticket sales, etc, but I'm still shocked. We have some bandwagoners, then we have some hardcore loyal fans(<---this guy). Every team has it's mix of loyal and average joe fan. What this list doesn't look at is that not all fans have the cash to go see games. i did take advantage of that and went to a few games those years , but i was strapped on cash, i woulda LOVED to go to every game. We actually won a few i went to actually. Raptors consistently have fans, especially an internet presence, whether their team is good or not.... I wasn't on the internet that much when the Lakers and C's sucked, but I expect their fans were a lot less prevalent. Nice to see Raps having a die hard fan base even though we have never been more than mediocre, and even at that we have only been decent a couple of seasons. It will be interesting to see what some of the fan bases, like the Cavaliers, diminish to if they lose LBJ and are back to 20 win seasons again. People exagerate this quite a bit though. I live in British Columbia and I guarntee you that there are way more fans of the Cavs, Lakers, Celtics and Suns (because of Nash) than there are fans of the Raptors. I actually don't even know one person that is a fan of the Raptors but I know plenty of fans of the aforementioned teams. Teams with superstars and winning teams are more popular where I live than the Raptors just because they are Canada's only NBA team. I'm not saying that it isn't true though, just not to the extent that others make it out to be. Besides, when talking about this particular blog, all of this is irrelevant because its not like people from Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary and the rest of Canada are the ones that are filling the Air Canada Center night in and night out. It is people that live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) who are the ones going to the games, which is what this blog was all about. This is completely false when talking about loyal fans. A loyal fan is going to stick with the team regardless of what their record is. The Bulls went through one of the worst two year stretches in NBA history during the early parts of this decade, yet that didn't stop them from having a high attendance. The Raptors have really yet to have anything more than what would be considered to be an above average season, yet they sell out every night. The Jazz had that one year where they struggled, but the arena was rocking night in and night out. This statement of yours just proves that the Cavs have a lot of bandwagon or fairweather fans, which a lot of people already now. They never sucked. Meanwhile you have teams like Toronto who have missed the postseason more than they have made it and their worst seasons are way worse than anything the Lakers have had to endure, yet the Raptor fans still pack the ACC regardless. Another example is the Bulls who have had the highest attendance in the NBA over the last 5 years or so. Your last line is just complete BS. There is no bias in that statement at all. I'm not saying that the Laker fan base isn't loyal but they aren't on this pedastool that you are putting them on. There is a very legit argument that they aren't even the most loyal fan base in the NBA. I'm not going to get into that though, because it would be pointless. I'm sure you watched the game, if you didn't notice, that "packed" house in Boston was full of Laker fans, i couldn't get a ticket to that game because it was sold out. I hate how people assume Kobe got MVP chants from Celtic fans, no, he didn't. He got them from Laker fans who went to the game( who were also the majority of the people there and the only people left in the final minutes due to that final score). I guess I can see why we are so low though. Arena is never loud and our ticket sales have been mediocre this season despite a winning record so far.
