The Regime
Shaquille O’Neal promised to convince LeBron James in to participating in the dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in Dallas next month if a couple more high-profile stars will join him. “As his manager, I will only allow LeBron to do the dunk contest if Vince Carter comes back out, if Kobe [bryant] comes back out and if another big name comes back out,” O’Neal said. “And if we can get a big prize and half of the money go to the people of Haiti and the other half to the winner.” http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/64143/20100120/shaq_promises_lebron_in_dunk_contest_if_other_stars_participate/
Celtics3420
Iunno, but the idea of half the prize going to Haiti sounds like a really good idea, hell, if LBJ wins it, dude might as well give the entire prize to haiti, he's loaded(and locked in for a HUGE pay day come the offseason). The Regime
It's a nice tactic from LeBron, he knows he is going to lose either way so best if it's to "stars".
ChosenOne
It's a nice tactic from LeBron, he knows he is going to lose either way so best if it's to "stars". Exactly what I was thinking, everyone knows that the best are not going to come back so why not make an excuse like that.
andreusito
Would be pretty good to have em, and I'm sure they'd do it for Haiti. However, this is Shaq, so it's not like the NBA is even going to listen to this.
Owner Real Deal Posted January 20, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted January 20, 2010 Might as well invite Larry Nance, Julius Erving and Spudd Webb as well. Shaq can't grasp the fact that Vince and Kobe can't get up like they used to be able to. Bryant has had his knees scoped, and Vince has been suffering from knee injuries for a few seasons now. You won't be seeing a reverse 360 windmill from Carter. It's more of a good idea FOR LeBron to win it. How about putting Bron in there with James White, Shannon Brown, Andre Iguodala and some other mean dunkers who can give him a reason to actually try and be creative, instead of powerful? Guest The Situation
Why are you guys so POSITIVE that Lebron loses no matter who he faces?
Flash
Why are you guys so POSITIVE that Lebron loses no matter who he faces? He's got a few things going against him. He's not really a creative dunker. Even in his HS contest it wasn't that impressive besides the fact that he got up so high. He's also a one-footed jumper. He never dunks off 2 feet. How many guys like that have you ever seen win the contest?
Lkr
Why don't they just give the full prize to Haiti? "Big Names" don't need the money
SRV
Lebron, Nate, Iggy, and someone else. Big names draw big crowds, I don't think may people watch the dunk contests anymore. I used to make sure I watched them when I was younger, but now if I miss it then o well. I honestly want to see Wade or Melo dunk though, I think that if given the chance they can pull off something nice.
Flash
Wade doesn't have the hops that any of those guys do and neither does Melo. DeRozan would beat LeBron and so would James White and possibly Bill Walker if his knee wasn't destroyed.
JohnWayne
I dont count Lebron James out of anything... Especially when it involves having to do anything with a basketball! Lebron is the pound for pound the most athletic player in the entire NBA! I would love to see guys like Josh Smith/Lebron/G-Wall/Nate Rob/J-Rich all comepete in the contest... It would def be worth watching! To be honest I'm not really feeling this year's participants! Nate Robinson will win every year, just based on the fact he is 5'5 or w/e he is. Jenneral
Vince Carter not Interested Vince Carter has no interest in returning to the dunk contest, even at the urging of Shaquille O'Neal. "No. Dwight (Howard) can do it," Carter said after Wednesday morning's practice. "Nobody should feel obligated to do anything they don't want to do."RealGM
kingfish
Ha, yeah right. And as Kobes manager I forbid him from playing in the dunk contest with a broken finger and a sore back.
