Lakers Inquire About Devin Harris

 Share

Recommended Posts

This from ESPN's Ric Bucher on his podcast today. No further details from Ric about when this inquiry incurred or what, if anything specific, the Lakers offered to give up. No handicapping from him, either, on the odds of a deal, so just throw it on the rumor pile.

For what it's worth, a trade for Devin Harris would be pretty easy to get done under the salary cap. He makes a relatively modest $8.4 million this year and has three years left on this contract. A combination of Adam Morrison and either Jordan Farmar or Shannon Brown would satisfy salary-matching rules and free up money for New Jersey to make their offseason free-agent push.

:P

Devin Harris

Kobe Bryant

Ron Artest

Pau Gasol

Andrew Bynum

It's over.

They would have to give up Bynum in a deal for Harris.

My thing is, i dont like Harris and i think a double guard situation would be worse then a double big man situation.

He had one good year and all the sudden everyone is all over him. I dont buy it. He had garbage on that team to work with, we know he comes from a good professional background, but can he keep up great play for long term? In the play offs? how clutch is he? ect. ect. ect.

The highest i see his bar is at around 15-6 which, IMO is not worth Andrew Bynum...

The Lakers would be much better off pushing the Bosh issue.

We wouldn't necessarily have to give up Bynum. We could deal them expirings and Jordan Farmar. New Jersey is more than likely looking to just get rid of his contract, which is why they threw Rafer out of town without exploring trade scenarios.

Bynum makes too much money to begin with. They wouldn't take him on for 4-5 seasons, $12 million up to $16 million his last season, especially when they already have an offensively-talented center in Lopez.

Harris is the one good thing they have... sure the Lakers inquired but I bet it was a 30 second phone call. Besides Harris isn't even that great of a fit at all, wouldn't be enough shots to go around the entire team with guys like Bynum and Pau already not getting as many touches as they probably want.

I also doubt NJ is looking to deal an all-star for a straight up salary dump. Harris is signed at a very reasonable price for his production, not to mention they only really need max cap for one free agent with having to re-sign Brook in 2 years after this season as well... they would be dumb to move him for trash/expirings.

I think at the deadline dealing expirings for Kirk is more realistic of a scenario, as Chicago seems desperate to get max money in time for 2010, if they cannot find a suitor for Salmons then Hinrich could become available at a cheap price maybe.

In all honesty though, I expect the Lakers line-up to remain as is until at the earliest the off-season, they have the same team that won it all last year so I doubt management is in a rush to add on more salary at this point, to already the best team in the league.
