Quarterback Matt Schaub became the fifth Texan in the Pro Bowl on Wednesday when quarterbacks Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger pulled out because of injuries.

Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers are the other AFC quarterbacks, pending the outcome of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.

Schaub joins receiver Andre Johnson, middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans, outside linebacker Brian Cushing and defensive end Mario Williams as Texans players in the Pro Bowl.

“I’m very excited about going down there (to Miami). To have five guys from our team be a part of it, that says a lot about what we’re doing in Houston,” Schaub said. “It’s a great opportunity to go up against the best players in the league and to be recognized in that group is definitely an honor.”

In his third season with the Texans, Schaub started 16 games for the first time. He led the NFL with 4,770 yards passing. He threw 29 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions.

5 Texans on the roster, nice to see Schaub get the recognition he deserves even if it because of an injury.
