Assuming Gilbert gets bought out would it be a bad move for the Heat to bring him in? This is assuming LeBron doesn't come here and we choose not to pursue Bosh as he and Beasley play the same position.

Before you completely write it off think about this. The Heat need immediate help at PG and need a legit second scorer besides Beasley. He also won't need a max deal which would allow us to add more depth. Maybe even make a run at Rudy Gay?

Then we're left with our 2 first rounders with some very solid players available in the middle of that first round. Draft a center, maybe Soloman Alabi? Then draft a PG. Armon Johnson or Nevada or Sherron Collins would be my choice there even though we haven't had much luck with Kansas PG's recently.

Again, this is assuming we have faith that Beasley can handle the full time PF duties next year and that we re-sign JO for the MLE which I think we should do.

We'd be looking at:

PG: Gilbert/Collins or Johnson

SG: Wade/Dorell Wright

SF: Rudy Gay/Quentin Richardson

PF: Beasley/Haslem

C: JO/Alabi/Anthony

That's a strong team assuming Wade and Gil can play together and Beasley grows as a player on both ends of the floor.

All the Heat need a is a point guard that plays good defense, can hit the 3 ball, has a high assist/TO ratio, and isn't ball dominant but can score and make plays when needed to.

Alston has played good D, but is inconsistent with his threes and his shooting tendency is a bit high for my taste. I hope the Heat go after Steve Blake this offseason. He's underrated, a very good friend of UD, and his whole skillset is exactly what I believe the Heat will need.

Also, I don't want JO back. With all the scoring the Heat will have after grabbing a big time free agent, there won't be enough shots to go around to make Jermaine happy, and he gets most of his off of isolations. The Heat need a guy like Marcus Camby or Ben Wallace who strictly do the dirty work.

I don't like Rudy Gay that much, either. He doesn't pass well and his defense is questionable. I'd prefer if the Heat only went after Gay if small forwards like LeBron, JJ, and even T-Mac aren't available first.

A line up of..

Blake/Alston

Wade/Wright

LeBron (dreaming...)

Beasley/Haslem

Camby/Alabi

..sounds best to me.

You'd honestly take T-Mac over Rudy Gay for us?

JJ is playing his way towards a max contract so idk if we'd go after him.

Camby completely skipped my mind. He's definitely a great fit here and I hope we draft either Alabi or Cousins along with either a PG or a wing player.

I honestly wouldn't mind bringing in Gilbert though. I think this is one situation where he could really shine playing alongside Wade if he doesn't let his ego get in the way.

Having a backcourt with 2 shoot first guards probably won't be best for you. I don't see Gilbert and Wade pairing up well together.

I see that argument and its definitely valid but I think Gilbert's perfect role would be as the second option to a Wade/LeBron type of player.

I mean, we were seriously looking at Allen Iverson and right now I think we really could've used him considering our PG situation right now. A scorer at PG really wouldn't bother me at all. Especially one who won't cost us the max and give us more options in free agency.

The only problem would be Gilbert accepting the role as the second option. He's used to having the ball in his hands most of the time, and moving from being the star to the number 2 player could cause some problems and he would probably play even more inefficiently.

However, I do remember the rumors about the Heat really wanting Iverson, so the front desk must have some idea that a shoot first point guard would be the perfect compliment to Wade. Who knows, but I'm sure Gilbert would love to play in Miami.

Well it seems like Gilbert is probably going to have to accept that role because no one is going to bring him in to be the top dog IMO. Which is why if he does accept that role he can really be a threat.

He also has the ability to play the 2 at times which is good for us.

True true, I don't see any team taking him in as the first option on offense. He would be a great starting point guard and backup shooting guard for the Heat, so if you guys get him, that'd be good. The only question is whether or not his contract will be bought out or voided by our team.

Marc Stein was saying that a buyout was the most likely scenario.

Yeah that's what I think is going to happen. A void is highly unlikely, and Gilbert returning to us is even more unlikely. If he isn't traded, he'll be bought out. Miami is one of a couple good suitors for him. New York will definitely make a push to get him as well.

I can see him in NY but I think they're gonna go all out for LeBron and Bosh. I really do think this scenario could be an option for us though and I'd be totally fine with it.

They will definitely be putting Lebron and Bosh higher up on their priority list, which is why I don't see Gilbert being moved to another team until late in the offseason. He is sort of a "backup plan", so to speak, for any team that fails to sign one of the big name free agents this summer. If Wade decides to stay with you guys, and you manage to acquire Gilbert, I'd call that a very successful offseason for you guys.

-- In my opinion, T-Mac > Rudy Gay. For one, he's cheaper, and I think he's at a stage in his career where he'll just be happy enough to play. He's a good defender when motivated, and we all saw the change in Q-Rich after joining the Heat.

T-Mac is easily the much better passer than Rudy Gay. The Heat don't need another player who looks at the basket with the ball in his hands and nothing else (referring to Michael Beasley). In T-Mac you get a playmaker and an all around player, in Rudy Gay you get a scorer and rebounder. T-Mac looks like the better fit to me.

Also, I think I heard somewhere that the Heat have been keeping progress reports on him. The Heat seem very interested in the possibility of bringing him in. And again, he'll most likely be a lot cheaper than Rudy Gay given how much money he's already made in his career.

--If Joe Johnson is available, NO WAY do the Heat turn him down, max contract or not. Here's a guy who can do it all. Score, pass, rebound, shoot, defend... He'd be the perfect Scottie Pippen. It's not like the Heat can't afford this guy.

--Camby would definitely be a great pick up. With Blake Griffin due to come back next year, he should be looking around to contribute to another team, especially a contender for the possibility to end his career with a ring. If the Heat get Bron or JJ, even Gay or Mac, you know Camby won't be too far behind.

--I want no part of Gilbert whatsoever. He simply does not bring the right things to the table. If the Heat didn't have Wade, I'd probably accept him as a two guard to bring some scoring... maybe.

Agree on JJ 100% he would be great here but we'd still have a serious hole at PG.

The only thing that really worries me about T-Mac is his health. How many games will he be able to play per year?

Free agent PGs include: Raymond Felton, Chris Duhon, Steve Blake, and Luke Ridnour, among others. Take your pick. Mine is Steve Blake, personally.

Steve Blake's numbers last year as a full-time starter:

11.0 ppg (43% FG, 43% 3PT), 5.0 apg (1.5 TOpg), 2.5 rpg, 1.0 spg, 31.7 mpg

Jason Williams' numbers in Memphis before heading to Miami:

10.1 ppg (41% FG, 33% 3PT), 5.6 apg (1.8 TOpg), 1.7 rpg, 1.1 spg, 27.5 mpg

Just saying...

As for T-Mac:

Looked pretty healthy to me. Tim Grover said he is 100% and ready to play the full load.

Sorry for not reading the thread, but my only thought is why you would want to add a career loser to a team looking to achieve competitiveness? Not to mention Arenas is a terrible team player, doesn't know how to take a role outside of shoot first, and is very lack luster on D.

So I am gonna take the call you crazy option.

That team would be good on NBA Live though.

Poe, I was definitely skeptical about Tracy but once you said Tim Grover all my doubt was gone.

Career loser? He's taken Washington to the playoffs on multiple occasions and gotten to the second round. He's also been an All Star multiple times as well. I wouldn't call that a loser by any stretch.

Allen Iverson is a shoot first guy too and I'm sure the Heat front office is kicking themselves for not taking him. Gilbert at PG would be totally ok with me.

Like I said before, this scenario is only if we strikeout on LeBron and Bosh which is very possible. I think we have a legit shot at Bosh though.

Yes career loser, he wasn't even the clear cut best overall player on those mediocre at best Wizards teams.

It would piss me off if we came 5th or ahead of Miami in any way, and Bosh left us for the inferior team.

LOL trash talking in January? You sound like a Cavs fan right now dude. You beat us after our second best player got pushed by Turkoglu and got injured. Congrats you're sooooooo much better than us.

I would rather have any other good PG or other position than have Arenas. Arenas would just take too many dumb shots and bring nothing more than offense. Guys like JJ, Gay, Lebron, Amare can do more than shoot the ball.

I don't hate Arenas, I just think it would be a waste of money to bring him in. Plus, he wouldn't mix well with Wade and Beasley because they both demand the ball 24/7.
