The 38-year-old right-hander went a combined 6-13 with a 4.92 ERA in 28 games last year with the Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies. Contreras started 23 games, but will be used mainly as a reliever in Philadelphia. Signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees in 2003, Contreras is 71-63 with a 4.61 ERA in 191 games, including 175 starts, for the Yankees, White Sox and Rockies. Contreras helped the White Sox win the World Series in 2005, going 15-7 with a 3.61 ERA in the regular season and 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA in four postseason starts.Source He's a cool guy, I like Contreras. Best of luck in Philly.

Phightins
I like it. This year's Chan Ho Park, minus wasting a month and a half trying him out in the rotation. He can seriously fill Park's role perfectly. He has been a starter for his entire career so he can definitely go multiple innings if need be, also has the "stuff" to pitch in the 8th or 9th inning if need be. Really nice hybrid pitcher. trutrojan8
He looked pretty good from what I saw last year, I thought the Rockies were going to try harder to resign him though.
Phightins
You are in trouble if you want Jose Contreras pitching the 8th or 9th in a close game. That is what everyone said about Chan Ho Park when we signed him last winter and he wound up being the most reliable guy in our pen. I dunno, small sample size to go on I guess, but he did look pretty good out of the bullpen in Colorado. We shall see.
Phightins
I wish we still had the 'Ho.
fish7718
Well the Mets are dumb for not signing Contraes...why not, low risk and we need another arm. Omar better have something surprising coming.
