First of all, this draw is a key milestone on the road that is taking us closer to the final tournament to be played in Poland and Ukraine in June next year. This is the third play-off draw in UEFA EURO history, but actually the first one to be held in one of the host countries. "The second reason for us being here in Krakow is of utmost importance for football as a whole and linked to our mission to protect the essential values of our sport and to eradicate a major threat: illegal betting and match-fixing. It's for this second reason that UEFA is joining the European sports ministers meeting [this afternoon to discuss these issues]."Related Items Play-off form guide Stars of qualifying Five celebrate qualification Kyiv date for finals draw Turkey make play-offs Ireland seal play-off place Nasri sends France through Croatia heading for play-offs England, Montenegro celebrate Denmark qualify with Portugal win Czech win snatches second Tuesday's 100-cap awards ©UEFA.com 1998-2011. Sħãlïq™
Germany warns of Euro 2012 boycott over Tymoshenko case The German government is threatening to boycott Germany’s matches at next month’s Euro 2012 football tournament in Ukraine because of alleged mistreatment of imprisoned opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, according to newspaper reports. According to a report in Der Spiegel magazine on Sunday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is considering staying from away the German national team’s games, which Ukraine are co-hosting with Poland, and is urging her ministers to adopt a similar boycott. The news came as Tymoshenko’s daughter made an impassioned plea to Berlin to “save the life” of the former Ukrainian prime minister, telling the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung newspaper that “the fate of my mother and that of my country are now one and the same thing: if she dies, democracy dies with her,” The Guardian reports.
