Poe
Got a poll? I haven't watched either of them play a full game, but I think John Wall is the safe bet because of his athleticism.
KurbyFX
Haven't been able to watch Rubio show case his talents. Has he developed a shot? Last time I heard he couldn't shoot for [expletive] and was just a flashy passer.
Flash
Forgot to add the poll. Wall seems like the clear choice to me here but I know a lot of people here like Rubio so I wanted to ask the question. I've been critical of Rubio in the past but he's still a good player. I think Wall is every bit as good as the hype he gets though.
JWaLL
Wall definitely. Rubio has more flash, but Wall is the overall better player. Plus Rubio is still a bad shooter.
ChosenOne
Forgot to add the poll. You can still add one, just full edit it. Wall definitely. Rubio has more flash, but Wall is the overall better player. Plus Rubio is still a bad shooter. I agree Rubio is alot more flashy but I would take Wall over him any day. Wall is a better scorer, much more ready physically for the nba. lol just think of Rubio against a posting Billups.

AtTheDriveIn
Wall = scoringRubio = defense, passing, etc. Well answered and not at all a generalization of both players. John Wall does much more than score. He's one of the best passing guards in college at the moment at 6.8 assists per game. He's also shown a lot of effort and hustle on the defensive end. Wall's more than just a scorer.
Kobe24
By saying that Wall = scoring, he means hes better scorer and Rubio is better defnder and passer. Not that Wall isnt goood at those

Poe
Thing about Rubio is you don't really know how well he'll turn out going pro, whereas Wall you know can at least build on his game through his athleticism. A lot of players who play well at their current level of competition doesn't always translate when moving on to the next step of the NBA game. Stronger areas in their game gets taken away by professional defenders who are ready for what's coming, and their weaker areas become exposed. All of a sudden, a player who once appeared great starts looking like a bad one, and everyone calls him a bust. Rubio has some length for his position and court vision, but that lack of NBA-level athleticism, speed, and even a jumpshot to fall back on may hurt him in the long run. Maybe he could be developed somewhat like Dragic is now in Phoenix, but there is really no telling, and definitely not worth the risk of taking him as a number 5 overall pick assuming all star talent. Everything I said could turn out completely wrong, though. I'm only generalizing Rubio's abilities.
AtTheDriveIn
My mistake on the first thing. Rubio > Wall at everything else. I was a supporter of Rubio before and still am. But Wall's game in general is better than Rubio's. Rubio might be the better passer but that's just one aspect of a complete repetoir. Wall's whole game is lightyears ahead of Rubio's. JWaLL
How is Rubio considered a better defender?Because people think that steals = defensive ability. It's the sad truth.
YugoRocketsFan
Because people think that steals = defensive ability. It's the sad truth. Some of you are seriously wrong about Rubio. some of you have probably seen him play 2-3 games, against the US olympic team, likely being the 2, and then all of a sudden. OMG WALL >>>>> when you have seen him play 40 college basketball games. Just because John Wall is athletic doesnt make him automatically better than Rubio. Rubio has yet to make a debut in the NBA, but I am sure the guy will make it, whether he becomes an all-star or not, its possible. On his defensive ability, some of you people obviously havent seen him play either, yes he gets a lot of steals, but he is also a good man-to-man defender, he definitely stays on his man. Like I said, dont judge someone from a game, and say they wont be as good as someone else when you havent seen him play, its just ignorance. I myself have seen both play plenty of times. He's pretty good at staying on his man but racks up a lot of steals, a lot of times from going for loose balls. John Wall's size and athleticism gives him the edge on man-to-man and is definitely a bigger defensive threat than Rubio.

Poe
Athleticism is overrated, yes it helps but you dont NEED it, John Wall is a Derrick Rose type player, while Rubio is a Kidd/Nash hybrid.Kidd had very good athleticism in his youth. Fast, quick, and he had much more ups than he let on. Now, even though he's lost a lot of that due to age, he's become one of the strongest players in the league that plays his position. Nash is one in a billion. There are many people that have similar physical abilities as Nash, yet he is the only player like himself to be so successful this decade, to not only make it to the NBA, but actually win the MVP as well. Just because a player is similar to Nash physically, there is no way to tell if they will ever match his abilities. Look at some other players like him that are currently in the NBA. Travis Diener, Chris Quinn, Beno Udrih, Roko Ukic, and Luke Ridnour. All of them are similar to Nash and Rubio, yet they are all bench players. If Rubio is going to make it in this league as a starter and meet expectations, he's going to need to prove that he can keep up defensively with the speed, quickness, and strength of NBA-caliber players despite his own lack of athleticism. If he can't, can he make up for it by having one of the best shooting percentages in the league like Nash? From what I know, Rubio doesn't even have a consistent jumper. With no NBA-level quickness and no jumpshot, that's really going to hurt him. So with the possibility of his defense not carrying over to the NBA, and the fact that he has no jumpshot, his whole game is going to have to completely rely on his creativity, court-vision, and awareness. So with all that in mind, this guy could very well be the next Steve Nash, or the next Chris Quinn. Edited February 3, 2010 by Poe
La Bomba
See the funny thing is, people say Rubio is supposed to be a Chris Quinn athletically, yet he still has a 39 inch verticle. He doesn't get a chance to show what he can do in the fast break because Europe plays such a slow, defensive minded basketball. He definitely has the speed to keep up with the NBA, he just lacks the physical strength. With that said, Wall is still the better player. Wall does everything so well and has unreal court vision for a 18 year old. He's physically gifted, the best playmaker in college basketball, and can consistently make jump shots. Wall is just so far ahead of Rubio physically and athletically, so as of now I'll take Wall. Maybe in a few years it'll be different. And Rubio's defense is better than Wall's. He won defensive player of the year in Spain, and does a good job staying on his man. He has the ability to lock people down. Who cares if he gets a lot of steals? Rajon Rondo does the same thing and he's a top five defensive point guard in the league.

I'm still skeptical as to whether or not that guarantees his defense carrying over to NBA-level athletes.
Flash
Athleticism is overrated, yes it helps but you dont NEED it, John Wall is a Derrick Rose type player, while Rubio is a Kidd/Nash hybrid. See that's where I disagree. Athleticism like Wall's is a HUGE advantage for a PG. Not to mention that Wall can get to the basket at will and has a much better shot that Rubio so he's much more of a threat on offense. Rubio is a great defender but Wall's defense is definitely on par with Rubio's IMO.
Paul
John Wall is the best thing that has happened to the NBA Draft since LeBron. Did you not see Lebron there are the Kentucky game? Unfortunately, they were talking about how the Nets are tanking the season to get him with the number 1 pick and how he was signing there.
