The Regime
I have always been under the impression that Ron isnt effective when is is trying to create offense. I have always viewed him more as a guy who can knock down open looks and play good in the post. This question is more so directed to Rocket fans who watched him quite a bit in his tenure with the Rockets, so can Ron create his own shot? Personally I dont want him creating offense, I would much rather see him spot up or use his strenght to body up smaller guys in the post, but apparently guys at TLN think differently. Owner Real Deal Posted February 7, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted February 7, 2010 Ron isn't a spot-up shooter. He hesitates to take the shot. Shooting off the dribble is the best bet for Artest.

He has been solid spotting up and shooting for us this season, as a matter of fact he is having his second best shooting season from 3 in terms of %. YugoRocketsFan
Ron's best bet is to receive passes and either cut or shoot, he can do that a high percentage but once he begins to jack up shots, it begins to look nasty, 3-12 type of nasty. kingfish
Well he had over 20 points last night without Kobe, so I think he can create his own shot.
Check my Stats
Artest has never been a good scorer, he always shoots a low percentage, he is just really streaky. He is not a very good spot up shooter though which, from what I can tell, is what he is doing a lot of. He just isn't quick enough anymore to get by his man, not to mention his feet are apparently pretty messed up. Artest used to be a guy that would get 5-6 APG, he needs the ball in his hands to do anything with it. He honestly reminds me a lot of a less crafty but better defending Hedo Turkoglu. A lot of his shots are assisted, but he either puts the ball on the floor once before he shoots, or he misses as many as he makes, spotting up. I'll put it this way: we have much better spot-up shooters on our team.
ChosenOne
Ive watched every game this season, he can create his own shot.... You must not have watched the Boston game, it was him creating his own shot that led us to a win, followed of course by Kobe's dagger. Warren2ThaG
I don't think he can, mostly a spot up shooter who gets cold a lot or has some hot games. He should change up his form when he releases.

Dude anyone can make is his own shot once in a while but when it comes to making a shot for yourself consistently he can NOT do that. kingfish
Dude anyone can make is his own shot once in a while but when it comes to making a shot for yourself consistently he can NOT do that.He did it consistently in that game, and hes done it for pretty much the whole season. The only thing holding him back sometimes is the plantar fascitis on his feet. The question was "can Ron Artest create his own shot," the answer is YES he CAN. Will he shoot a high percentage when creating his own shot? The answer to that would be no.

Not even every guard, every player. A big man can post and put up a hook as well that is considered creating your own shot, but if you are talking about consistency or efficiency then it is not possible by all. Sun Tzu
Before this season I actually didn't think he was good at creating his own shot but this season I've started watching more Lakers games. I never really watched Ron Artest in the past that much.
Owner Real Deal Posted February 8, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted February 8, 2010 Again, guys, Ron is better shooting off the dribble. I believe there were a couple of Houston fans that said this right when the trade happened, also...because I remember them saying that Kobe would be running the offense, and Ron would need the ball in his hands to succeed (saying that he wouldn't be good for us). Shooting off the dribble is essentially creating your own shot, unless you want to get technical about it and say that he needs to dribble the ball once or twice after being wide-open. I am more confident in his shot when he's got someone one-on-one than when he's left wide-open in the corner. That's not necessarily a good thing, though. Ron gets too wrapped up in hitting jumpers in his man's face. He's turned it down a bit from his days in Houston, though, but there are nights he jumps back on that ship.
