Denver’s Brandon Marshall to visit Seattle

--------

SEATTLE (AP)—Despite a potentially huge price to acquire his services, the Seattle Seahawks are going to take their shot at impressing Denver wide receiver Brandon Marshall(notes).

A Seahawks spokesman says the star Broncos receiver, and restricted free agent, will visit with the Seahawks on Saturday. ESPN.com first reported Marshall’s visit.

The price to get Marshall to leave Denver could be costly. Denver slapped a first-round tender on Marshall earlier this week, meaning Seattle would have to surrender the No. 6 pick in April’s draft as compensation to the Broncos if the two teams cannot work out a trade.

The reward for Seattle could be the big play receiver the Seahawks need even if he comes with past problems. Marshall has caught more than 100 passes in three straight seasons.

Giants make Rolle NFL's highest paid safety

Giants signed FS Antrel Rolle to a five-year, $37 million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed.

He's the NFL's highest paid safety, ever. The Giants needed to upgrade the position, but of all the free agent signings so far, we like this one the least. Rolle has fine ball skills and range, but has never made a Pro Bowl, tackled poorly throughout last season, and often seems to be out of position. In a perfect world the Giants would team him with SS Kenny Phillips to form an imposing safety duo. Phillips' future is cloudy, however, as he recovers from microfracture knee surgery.

I was surprised to find out that Porter was "cut" by the Dolphins, he had like 41 tackles 9 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. I'd like to get him.

It's only 15 million, I doubt he'll ever see another cent of that guaranteed money.

I'm sort of glad to see these Cards getting overpaid. Dansby is a beneficiary of the system and he won't be given the same reign under Parcells as he did under Whis and his system. Rolle was just absolutely [expletive]ty until last year when he got moved to safety.

Eagles offseason has been a joke so far.

We resigned Weaver (good). Whoopee!!!

We got rid of Westbrook and Witherspoon (our best linebacker last year), and let all the good free agents sign elsewhere.

Reid drafts Kolb in the 2nd round, but refuses to part ways with Donovan, who will most likely be gone after next year. Eagles refuse to trade Michael Vick unless they get like a 2nd round pick in return. So after next season, McNabb and Vick will walk away leaving us with absolutely nothing. One QB plays, not 3. Go figure.

I'm still waiting on moves to be made, I know I may sound impatient, but the Eagles have always disappointed me in the past, and they'll probably do it again. It makes no sense to have McNabb and Vick on our roster, if Kolb is so highly regarded. Trade both for picks before we lose them for absolutely nothing next year. It's not like we're gonna be competing for the Superbowl either, the team has so many weaknesses, I don't see how we can address all these areas to catch up with the Saints in the NFC.

Dolphins retain Pennington for 1 year, $2.5M

Dolphins re-signed QB Chad Pennington to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

The deal includes a "trade bonus" that would add $1.515M to Pennington's 2010 pay should he be dealt away before October's trade deadline. The 34-year-old is recovering from the third throwing-shoulder surgery of his career, but the Dolphins value Pennington as a veteran of OC Dan Henning's system and mentor to Chad Henne. Henne will not face competition to start.

why did they release witherspoon, WTF. he was by far the best linebacker, really the only linebacker that should be starting in the NFL.

the eagles better do something, i feel like they always just put their name in the race for big free agents like peppers but have no intention of actually spending the money to sign them. this team was so far under the cap and now has so much money with no cap, but they just cant spend it. yes westbrook isnt the same player as he was and probably doesnt deserve the money he was making, but if you arent gonna spend the money on something else then why cut him.

andy reid is just pissing me off moore and more every year. i try to support him but its getting tough. it seems like he enjoys getting close every year. he does nothing to put the team over the top but keeps them in middle

Rumors flying that Broncos lessen the deal to get Marshall for Seahawks for a 2nd (40th overall pick) and 4th rounder. If that is true what a steal! seahawks would still have 2 first round draft picks+ marshall, crazy

That would be a huge steal.

Report: Thomas Jones to meet with Chiefs

The Chiefs have reportedly scheduled a visit with free agent Thomas Jones on Monday.

This has been in the works for days. Coach Todd Haley had made it known that he wants a complement to Jamaal Charles, and Jones rumors started to surface on Thursday. The Chiefs would be a worst-case scenario for Jones' 2010 fantasy value, as his touches will be limited behind Charles

Schefter also said the 'Skins and Willie Parker are meeting. That'd be an excellent move on Washington's part, with or without Portis.

They need a line though, Willie doesn't have the quicks he had early in his career. However, I do agree because of Mike Shanahan and his tendency with RBs. From a Steelers perspective, it isn't much of a loss.

Well we just locked up Weaver and Avant long term, those are good moves, I guess. Both solid pieces, but we don't really improve any. Our record last year was deceiving, we weren't a good football team at all. We didn't win a SINGLE game last season against a team that made the playoffs. Just beat up on weak competition, but a playoff birth seems enough for us.

I'm really frustrated. I don't understand releasing Spoon at all. He was our best LB last year, would probably have been our 2nd best LB next year, but nobody even knows if Bradley will be 100%. Releasing him to save some money is absolutely idiotic, since we are in an UNCAPPED offseason.

So far we haven't made any big splashes. I know free agency is just beginning, but I haven't heard any interest in players that can improve our team.

Furthermore, Reid continues to push McNabb as our #1 QB, and by all reports, we aren't trading away Vick unless we get a 1st day draft pick. I know the draft is still long ways away, but knowing the Eagles, I wouldn't be surprised to see them do something completely idiotic and keep all 3 QBs on the roster, and end up losing 2 of the 3 next offseason for absolutely nothing. It is absolutely moronic to keep all 3, when you can trade them to upgrade some of our many weaknesses, which include o-line, d-line, linebacker, safety, cornerback, and running back. Instead, we're gonna be morons and keep all 3, and play 1 for the majority of the season.

I sincerely hope we won't be that stupid. I want McNabb gone, I want Vick gone. They should be traded for picks to help us rebuild. Having McNabb around for another year is not going to make a difference. We're just going to be one and done anyways, and Kolb is the "future" who will take over. Essentially, if we keep McNabb, we're just wasting away another year. Brilliant.

I hope something happens, there's still a lot of time left, but I have 0 faith in the Eagles. Please prove me wrong.

oh, btw, Eagles just restructured Stacy Andrew's contract. You wonder what they're going to do with all that cap space being freed up from Andrews, and the releases of Spoon and Westbrook, on top of all the cap space we already had, in an uncapped year. Seems pointless to me.
