So you'll take that over a guy who's been doing it consistently for a decade? I don't see the logic behind getting rid of McNabb. Unless you're getting the number one pick, I'd hold on to one of the better QB's in the league.

just to start, i am one of the biggest mcnabb supporters and i do appreciate what he has done for the philadelphia eagles in the past

 

the logic is that mcnabb is 33 years old and is going on the last year of his contract. the eagles are notorious for not resigning older players.

 

kevin kolb was drafted in the second round as the guy to replace mcnabb eventually. kolb is also going into the last year of his rookie contact this season.

 

situation 1- lets say the eagles dont trade mcnabb and mcnabb starts this season with kolb on the bench for the 4th year. we know the eagles history with older players, so they will not want to spend a lot of money on a 34 year old quarterback. kolb will be a free agent after being on the bench for 4 years with the eagles. chances are he will not want to resign with a team that treated him like crap and never gave him a chance to play. he will want to go elsewhere and we will be stuck with either a 34 year old probably overpaid qb or no qb at all

 

situation 2- the eagles trade donovan mcnabb today. lets say the trade with the rams went through, eagles got the 33rd pick in the draft. eagles start 25 year old kevin kolb and he develops with the other young players on the offense such as desean jackson. kolb would have a very skilled offense around him and has a very high chance of success for many years with the young offense. the eagles also have an extra player from the 33rd pick

 

 

you choose which situation you would rather be in. it makes absolutely no sense to not trade mcnabb now, better off getting something for him now then letting him walk next year.

 

i would love to hear a legitimate argument to keep mcnabb though. and by legitamate i mean not just saying that mcnabb has been a good qb for many years.

I feel the same way about Kolb, he doesn't seem like a true starter to me. Just a decent backup. I think it's because this team has been McNabbs for so long. Even though McNabb has never won anything, he is a good quarterback. They usually always make the playoffs when he plays an entire season, so I'm not sure what handing it over to Kolb would do. He could improve but I think fans would need to accept possibly not making the playoffs for a bit.

Report: Eagles want a top 42 pick for McNabb

 

Updating a previous item, the Associated Press reports the Eagles will only deal Donovan McNabb for a pick in the top 42 selections of the upcoming draft.

 

Coincidence? The Raiders and Bills, considered the early favorites to land McNabb, have the 39th and 41st picks respectively. The 49ers' second-round pick is only 49th, but they could conceivably add another player or pick to entice the Eagles. The Rams, Browns and Cardinals have denied interest, and the Vikings, Seahawks, Broncos and Jaguars are not believed to be in the mix to acquire McNabb

Raiders would part with 'Aso' in McNabb trade

 

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli confirms that the Raiders would be willing to part with Nnamdi Asomugha in a trade for Donovan McNabb.

 

It would come down to Philadelphia's willingness to take on Asomugha's contract, though. "Aso" is due $16 million in 2010 with an option year in 2011 available for either $16.9 million or the franchise tag number for quarterbacks, whichever amount is greater. If the '11 option is not exercised, the deal prohibits Asomugha's team from franchise tagging him.

I don't understand what Philly is doing trying to trade Donovan. If Oakland is really dumb enough to give up Aso like that then you do it but that's because Nnamdi is arguably the best defensive player in the NFL.

Report: Raiders favorites in race for McNabb

 

Sources tell Yahoo's Charles Robinson that the Raiders are "in front right now" in the pursuit of Donovan McNabb.

 

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora also believes that Oakland is the favorite to land McNabb. "And I'm told they will NOT require an extension to get a deal done," Robinson adds. The Raiders were swindled for a future first-round pick by New England in last summer's Richard Seymour deal, with Seymour in a contract year. McNabb is also in the last year of his deal. We'd say Al Davis wouldn't make the same mistake again...but these are the Raiders.

Report: JaMarcus Russell weighs 290 pounds

 

JaMarcus Russell reportedly weighed in at 290 pounds when he reported for the Raiders' offseason program.

 

So Oakland can scratch left tackle off its list of needs. Russell was initially reported to weigh 271, but many close to the situation immediately doubted that report. Russell, annually and incredibly overweight, isn't doing anything to shed his emerging label as the biggest bust in NFL history.

Redskins Interested In Owens Or Marshall?

 

Washington Post - The Redskins may be interested in acquiring free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens or trading for Denver's Brandon Marshall.

 

Washington had Antonio Bryant in for a visit, displaying their interest in adding a pass-catcher.

 

"We don't talk about who's on our radar screen for obvious reasons, but we do have a plan. And sometimes we'll wait to see what the market value is relative to the price, how many guys might be out there. But we're going to constantly try to upgrade our football team, and sometimes it has to do with salary as much as has to do with just getting depth. And maybe after our minicamps, maybe after the draft, some guy will be out there, and we'll gobble him because we think he has a chance to improve our football team," offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said.

Citing "multiple league and media sources," Profootballtalk.com reports that Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford may refuse to sign a pre-draft contract with the Rams.

 

JaMarcus Russell is the only No. 1 pick to not sign before the draft in the last four years. By refusing to sign, Bradford would gain leverage in contract talks. The move could also spur St. Louis to shop the pick, fearing Bradford might hold out like Russell, or even draft another player. Signing early and reporting on time would give Bradford his best chance to start on day one. Being drafted No. 1 would also give him his best shot at the biggest contract.

Texans lock up DeMeco Ryans at 6 years, $48M

 

Texans re-signed MLB DeMeco Ryans to a six-year, $48 million contract. The deal was first reported by beat writer John McClain, though ESPN's Adam Schefter had the particulars.

The contract contains a whopping $21.75M guaranteed and $26.3M in the first three years, including a $7.5M signing bonus and $7M base salary in 2010. A two-time Pro Bowler and captain of the Texans' improving defense, Ryans rivals Jon Beason as the second-best young inside linebacker in the game behind Patrick Willis. The 25-year-old did well to match Karlos Dansby's guaranteed money with the Dolphins. Ryans, Brian Cushing, and unsung SLB Zac Diles will form one of the top 4-3 linebacker units for years to come.

The Eagles are reportedly no longer shopping Michael Vick.

 

Philly set the price far too high on Vick from the beginning, erasing whatever market he may have had four years from his last NFL start. After settling on Donovan McNabb as the quarterback to deal, the Eagles can keep Vick as Kevin Kolb insurance and a Wildcat/short-yardage option in 2010.

The management is flat out retarded. I heard they wanted a first day pick for Vick, who in their right minds would propose something like this. Of course no deal will get done.

 

Who knows what's going on in Donovan's situation. They over value their players too much. I heard they would settle for nothing less than a 1st round pick for Donovan, but the market is absolutely dry.

 

It reminds me of Lito Sheppard a couple of years ago, when they wanted like a 1st or 2nd rounder in return. They ended up trading him to the Jets for absolutely nothing because nobody is that stupid.

 

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the idiots F this up and we start off the season with all 3 QBs on our roster, with Donovan steaming about what happened during the offseason. I think at this point, they're almost forced to get McNabb out of town. There's no way he'd be happy with this situation next year if he's still in Philly.
