Report: Jets expected to sign Jason Taylor

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Jets are fully expected to sign free agent Jason Taylor during his Wednesday visit.

"I’d be completely shocked if he left without signing," one source said. "Rex (Ryan) likes those tall, lanky, off-the-edge kind of guys that can wreak havoc." The move would likely threaten Bryan Thomas' spot on the depth chart, and obviously move down Vernon Gholston. Taylor wanted to return to the Dolphins, but GM Jeff Ireland's team is moving on without him.

Redskins To Package Portis, Haynesworth In Deal?

National Football Post - It might be tough for the Redskins to deal defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and his huge contract alone, so Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post suggests that they add running back Clinton Portis to the equation.

"One way a trade of Haynesworth might possibly work now is if the Redskins – akin to trades in the NBA -- find a team to dump another bad contract or two along with Haynesworth to ease their blow. The obvious candidate here is Clinton Portis, who has $6.43M of his $7.2M salary guaranteed for 2010," Brandt writes.

"In this scenario, the Redskins would be looking for a trade partner to take on Haynesworth’s deal and Portis’ deal to cushion the impact of the $32M paid to Haynesworth. Again, unlikely, but worth a shot."

Report: Eagles still hoping to trade Vick

According to the Philadelphia Daily News' Paul Domowitch, the Eagles still hope to trade Michael Vick.

It's no surprise considering Vick's salary. Though coach Andy Reid enjoys the luxury of Vick as a Wildcat option, he's not a great candidate to run the offense if Kolb gets injured. More importantly, it wouldn't take long for Philly fans to turn on Kolb and starting chanting Vick's name if the first-year starter stumbles out of the gate. Domowitch suggests free agent Marc Bulger as a candidate to replace Vick as the main backup

If I were Miami I'd jump all over that. They need a guy like Haynesworth in the middle and Portis is a great back to add.

Ricky Williams Ronnie Brown combo was great last year and Haynesworth doesn't like 3-4. Makes no sense for Miami.

Source: Jason Taylor to Jets "close to done"

---------

"Nothing is official, but the rumors are flying that Jason Taylor has all but agreed to become a New York Jet.

A Taylor associate tells me the deal is "close to done" and all that's left to discuss are smaller issues, such as how much of the voluntary offseason program the 35-year-old linebacker will be allowed to skip as he comes off minor shoulder surgery.

"He was courted by some other teams but it looks like New York is the spot," the associate said. "He's waiting for them to make it more enticing for him."

The deal would be for two years at $3.45 million, the maximum the Jets could pay him under the new rules for an uncapped NFL year.

However, agent Gary Wichard tells me there will be "nothing till next week" on Taylor's 2010 home."

Former Jaguars WR Reggie Williams trying to catch on in Seattle

-------

"Former Jaguars first-round pick Reggie Williams is attempting to salvage what once seemed a promising career in the NFL.

Picked ninth overall by the Jags in the 2004 NFL Draft, Williams will participate in the Seattle Seahawks' three-day minicamp beginning Tuesday. Williams hasn't played in the NFL since the 2008 season - the last year of his contract with the Jags -when he caught 37 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns.

Following the 2008 season, the Jaguars didn't re-sign Williams and he became a free agent.

Williams was then arrested in Houston for driving while intoxicated and possession of .97 grams of marijuana on the same day as the beginning of the free-agency signing period."

Twitter (Adam Schefter) - There has been a lot of trade speculation surrounding Bills running back Marshawn Lynch, but there is another Pro Bowl runner that could soon be on the move.

Miami has long been shopping Ronnie Brown.

Dolphins Open To Dealing Ronnie Brown

He'd be a nice piece if we choose to go after Brandon Marshall. This makes me think they go with CJ Spiller at 12 which I would love. IMO Spiller is the best RB prospect to come out in a while. He runs low to the ground and is the most versatile player I've seen in a while.

I'm cool with it. Free agent after the year, unlikely to resign in Pittsburgh, and likely to have a 4 game suspension to start the year.

I dont understand that move from the Steelers perspective, I'm guessing it's in response to all his off the field issues. Mike Wallace is a solid WR, but I think he's best suited as a slot wr. From SuperBowl MVP to the Jets for a 5th rounder, wow.

I think it's less of how he fits the team and more of the Steelers FO saying "we won't take this bull[expletive] anymore". Ben better tread lightly.

[expletive], this could even be a shot at Ben as well. They're clowning that organization.

Yeah probably so. Makes you wonder if the Steelers are maybe targeting someone in this draft.
