Owner Real Deal Posted February 18, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted February 18, 2010 Just a thought...as a legit starter, and after having his starting role ripped from him, what are the chances Ilgauskas doesn't return to the Cavaliers, if the Wizards buy out his contract? Would he talk to teams that are in need of a big man and can still upset teams in the playoffs, like the Heat? And what are the chances the Wizards try and keep him? Check my Stats
I doubt the Wizards will keep him, they are probably bitter but at the end of the day they are a professional organization. To break their word is pretty sad (this is assuming they told Cleveland they would cut him back). And I doubt Z cares about starting at this point in his career, I would say the chances of him returning are 99%.
AboveLegit
Wizards won't be keeping him, they got Brian Skinner from Clippers (as an expiring contract, but there's no point in keeping another Center when they're trying to develop JeVale). He's too dedicated to the city of Cleveland, he's been there his whole career, I can't see him in another uniform.
Cleveland's Finest
The Wizards, by buying him out, will go under the luxury tax.....so it's sort of the obvious choice.... Also, why should the Wizards play Z when McGee needs time to develop?
JWaLL
It's very likely his contract will be bought out. We're going to use the remainder of the season to develop McGee at the center spot, since he was the only "untouchable" player on our roster. Owner Real Deal Posted February 18, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted February 18, 2010 Well, I figured all of this would happen...but I guess the main question is...what if Big Z wants to start somewhere else? Is there even a chance of that happening? This isn't Drew Gooden. Ilgauskas is a legit starting big man, and teams will want him.

Check my Stats
Considering the Cavaliers have stuck with Z through thick and thin (his injuries) and Z has done the same (the Cavs sucking), I can't see him leaving, regardless of starting or not. And there haven't been any rumblings lately in regards to him caring about starting, has there? At this point I think dude would rather win a ring with his one and only team he has been on rather than start somewhere else.
Cleveland's Finest
Well, I figured all of this would happen...but I guess the main question is...what if Big Z wants to start somewhere else? Is there even a chance of that happening? This isn't Drew Gooden. Ilgauskas is a legit starting big man, and teams will want him. Why would he? Kobe and Z are the only active players to have been with the same team the longest, which puts in perspective how long he's been here. Why wouldn't he want to come back....we are obviously a contender and he has a connection to the city. If he went to some mediocre/average playoff team, it just wouldn't make sense. He's planning on retiring this year. What better a way than to go out after being a part of Cleveland's first title in years. His number will be retired here, he's special to this team, he isn't going elsewhere.
Owner Real Deal Posted February 18, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted February 18, 2010 Mavs are going to pursue him. http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/topic/9527-mavs-will-pursue-ilgauskas
MainEv3nt
mavs are interested in z, be nice if we can pick him up
Check my Stats
Doesn't make sense for him to go there, he wouldn't be starting over Haywood, or at least shouldn't.
JWaLL
Why would he go to the Mavs? You already have Haywood and Dampier... unless they plan on dumping Damp, this doesn't make sense.
KurbyFX
Damp's going to be out a few weeks.
Owner Real Deal Posted February 18, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted February 18, 2010 http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/2986/566238-zydrunas_ilgauskas_large.jpg In order to acquire Antawn Jamison, Cleveland was forced to trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who leads the franchise in career games, blocks and rebounds. Both the Cavaliers and Ilgauskas want to be reunited in just over 30 days. "Z had a long day," agent Herb Rudoy said of his client. Ilgauskas must be bought out by March 1st in order to be eligible for the playoffs. "I'm going to try to get them to do a buy-out, but I've already heard from a few teams -- good teams -- that are really interested in wanting to talk about Z going to play for them," Rudoy said. "That doesn't surprise me. He's still a very good player. He's a very interesting player who can still be a very good center in this league. "I don't know exactly what's going to happen. I think his heart is in Cleveland, that's for sure. But we'll see how this plays out. He's got 30 days to make a decision if it's Cleveland. If it's somebody else, he could make it in a week. His whole decision will be based on what's best for his career. He'd like to win a championship, that's for sure. But it's his call, not mine. I'm just going to give him all the options." http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2010/02/zydrunas_ilgauskas_agent_will.html
ChosenOne
It is tough how he got thrown into the trade but it had to be done. I think there is a 99.9% chance that he get bought out and then he signs back with the Cavs.
