My god, chillis is so expensive

I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, half a tray of cheese fries, and a bottle of water and it cost me $15

They are, but the food there is soooooo good. For a few dollars more you could of gotten the two-for-twenty deal, and just saved the other meal for later. :glasses:

Sounds like you are thinking like a college student :) thats what I do with my dominoes.

that's horrible logic. laptops are used mostly to follow along in class (take notes, get info online, etc). you could hypothetically do those things on your phone, but everyone knows most students would only use them mostly for texting.

some of these college classes have hundreds of students. if you allowed texting, you'd have classes where literally 200-300 people are on their phone at the same time. you can't tell me that wouldn't be a distraction for some of the people in the class.

And most students only use their laptops to go on facebook. Your point is completely flawed.

I'm in the college classes where there are hundreds of students and texting, laptop usage, leaving in the middle, etc is allowed in all of them. You have to understand that it is no longer the professors job to deal with students distracting other students. It is the students job. If it is really that big of a distraction, move or tell them to stop. It works. People are mature in real colleges.

This argument fails...not even entertaining, both sides are making horrible cases, neither are insulting each other well either...

then add to the debate. criticizing doesn't help anything.

it's flawed to think texting shouldn't be allowed in class? lol, alright bro. from my experience, students actually use their laptops in class for school purposes. even if they're on facebook or some site that's unrelated to school, it's not nearly as distracting as texting. with laptops, people are just looking at a screen whereas with texting, people are flipping their phones open and shut and making noises when punching the keys with their fingers. that would annoy me after awhile and I'm sure I'm not the only student who'd feel that way.

so then why not just allow them to do anything? if they're already allowed to text, get up and leave, and do whatever, might as well let them talk amongst each other, throw things, pass notes, have sex, whatever.

there has to be some kind of rules or policy in the classroom. without them, it'd turn to chaos. call me crazy or old-fashioned, but I think it would be the wrong move to allow texting in class. everyone would do it, some people would be distracted, and GPA's would probably decrease a result. I don't get why it's so hard for students to just sit there and pay attention for an hour without texting or wreaking havoc. it is college, after all.

Agreed. I have taken classes with 400 people and now I have more classes with 30-40 since I am a semester away from graduating, and none of my professors really care if you text.

I have professors that tell us if you need to make a call or text step outside the classroom and do it, or do it without distracting the class, but at least in my experience the professor expects students to be respectful and majority are.

I have had one professor who just told us to turn the phone off, and if the phone did start ringing he would just tell that student to leave plain and simple, but wouldn't waste his time policing the situation, just get rid of the student.

^ that's why it's not a big problem. most professors discourage it, so only a few students actually do it. if you made it legal, though, it would become a big problem imo.

Ya from my experience it's really not a problem, each professor deals with it differently at the start of the semester but none of them waste much time with it.

so then why not just allow them to do anything? if they're already allowed to text, get up and leave, and do whatever, might as well let them talk amongst each other, throw things, pass notes, have sex, whatever.

As far as that statement HOV you might just be underestimating students common sense lol. I mean if you are a big distraction the professor will call you out, or address it after class but at the same time you have some professors who truly don't make an effort to explain the material well enough to keep students attention. So if you are going to call out the students on focusing I think it depends heavily on the professor as well.

I only say this because I have been through the good and the bad and am guilty of pulling out my IPhone and getting online or texting during a horribly boring lecture. I have had professors who just could not speak and deliver the material well enough, I have had classes where I have realized I am better off studying the material on my own and understanding it than hearing the prof make a half [expletive] attempt at it, I mean I have had "paycheck" professors lol it sucks but it is a key factor when it comes to losing interest in a class.

But I am with you as far as being mature going to class and learning for what you pay for, it's just the method sometimes fails in a big way. But majority of the students have common decency towards where you don't need strict rules to prevent chaos because at the college level you expect a certain level of maturity, no one forces you to come to class it's really on you so I think people that show up are literally willing to learn.

Ahh first time playing ball in a while today.

Feels so [expletive]ing good. Too bad it's supposed to snow again on Tuesday -_-

You ever ball at any of the gyms at Rutgers? I usually play some pickup anytime I'm up there before we go out at night, there's always a ton of good kids up there (women's basketball team and men's football are there really often).

All the time at Werblin. Sometimes at the outside courts on Livi

Haha, I've played with the some of the players on the men's football team before. So much fun because they were actually on my team. Just throw up lobs, play bad D (because it doesn't matter if your player passes you if behind you is a 6-9 250 pound man) and chuck 3's.

Hahahahaha WHAT?!?!? A laptop screen distracts you LESS than texting? What the [expletive]?

You have clearly never sat behind some one looking at crazy pictures from the night before on Facebook.

It is the most distracting thing in the world. With texting you don't even [expletive]ing see anything.

The making noises point is dumb as well because you make the same if not more noise while typing. Plus I have an iPhone so I don't make any noise texting.

so then why not just allow them to do anything? if they're already allowed to text, get up and leave, and do whatever, might as well let them talk amongst each other, throw things, pass notes, have sex, whatever.

Once again goes back to the point college students are supposed to be adults. And many of them are. I've had 40-60 year olds in my classes. I guess community college is different because it is 13th grade but at University's you are treated and expected to act like an adult.

Everyone already does it. Welcome to 2011.

You know what I miss? Playing vortex football.

I use to dominate recess in grade seven and eight as I was one of the top ten fastest people for Southern Ontario. Only kids who were faster were black kids and one ginger....damn gingers.

wow, good one.

some of the smartest people I know are in community college. people who got 4.0's and above in high school go there just so they can save money and figure out what they want to major in. everyone who goes to community college is an idiot is like the most pathetic misconception out there.

way to totally misinterpret my post. all I am saying is that you are in small classes where professors can notice petty bull[expletive] like that

how else am I supposed to take a serious topic?

maybe I'm just extra sensitive about this because I've been involved in an accident before because someone was texting while driving. I'm not big on cell phones in general. I could talk about computers and the internet all day, but cell phones - they don't do much for me.

I still don't think texting should be allowed in class. what pisses me off the most though is people who blatantly endanger others by texting while driving. today I was helping my grandparents move out of their house and while driving throughout the day, I saw at least five people talking on the phone while driving. I even saw one chick going about 75 on the freeway, both hands off the wheel, texting. knowing most of you, you'll probably say it's not a big deal, but I guess that's a debate for another time.

I agree with you about the texting while driving - [expletive] is mad dangerous. I do it too often...I'm starting to get better with it.

Did you really just compare texting in class to texting while driving?

Bahahahahahha

haha nah he didn't he's just saying that we probably won't care bout that either
