I mean dayum, you saw that game.

Melo - 40 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds

Lebron - 43 points, 15 assists, 13 rebounds :o

And they were goin at it with clutch shots down the stretch, not just easy shots either, TOUGH shots. Has Kobe ever had a game like Lebron had tonight? I mean EVER in his career? Holy crap.

Melo has solidified himself as a top 5 player for sure this year, but I think LeBron, Kobe, and Dwyane are still ahead of him by a little. I know Carmelo hit the game winner (a clutch, tough shot over LeBron, I saw it yes), but he isn't proven to be the closer that Wade has proven himself to be. LeBron and Kobe are both ahead of even Wade and Anthony by a fair bit IMO... If LeBron can get that killer instinct on a nightly basis and make those clutch shots to win games, then he'll take the crown as the NBA's best. Kobe isn't physically as gifted, but his ability to finish games nearly 100% of the time puts him ahead of Melo and for now, LeBron.

I'd like to see LeBron keep up his triple-double style of play for a while... last year he did this too if I recall. He scored for the beginning of the season and dished a lot, but focused on himself. Then later on he got his teammates involved for a stretch of two or three weeks I think where he had a few triple-doubles and a bunch of close efforts. He's applying himself fully on boards, and definitely passing as much as he ever has in his career recently. His in the mode where he can't be stopped, but tonight his teammates didn't come up too big on defense, and he missed the shot when it counted.

Bryant put up a few like that, IIRC.

11/1/02: 33 PTS, 15 REB, 12 AST

11/3/02: 33 PTS, 14 REB, 12 AST

(consecutive games, by the way)

12/17/04: 36 PTS, 10 REB, 14 AST

Those are three triple-doubles he scored 30+ in. I may have missed one or two, no idea.

^I use to be like woah he is getting sick numbers. I watched that game last night and it is kind of easy for him to get those. He attracts so much attention and he has guys like Hixon or whatever who constantly cut. He gets about 7-8 assists at least on them having really easy layups.

I dislike Lebron but I do think him and Kobe are way above everyone else. Then you have Melo and Durant and Wade I would say is 5th.

53-10-8 too even though its not a triple double.

Also I find it difficult to compare Kobe to Lebron because they have different roles on the teams. Lebron basically has the ball in his hand 99% of the time. Kobe at least tries to run the triangle until it goes to hell.

Oh well being 6'8-6'9 250+ pounds with a 100" vertical has its advantages I suppose.

I think LeBron has come pretty close to surpassing Kobe, if he hasn't already. I know Kobe is a lot better fundamentally, and has a lot more in his overall package of skills and all around play, but age is beginning to catch up to him a little bit. Plus, LeBron is just that much more physically dominant than Kobe by now, and when adding athletics and skill together when evaluating each player, LeBron is just starting to become a bit better.

LeBron is in a league of his own right now even above Kobe. Really it goes:

LeBron

Kobe

Wade, Melo, Durant etc IMO.

Putting Kobe 2nd right now is pretty generous considering his injuries. Those are impressive stats by Melo though, the kid has really come a long way in the past 2-3 seasons, he is a stud now. LBJ has been the best player since he won his first MVP. LeBron affects the game in basically every way you could ask a player to.
