Guest California Dreamin'
I can recharge my cell phone, mouse, and PS3 controller, but my computer USB ports won't work. It won't recognized any devices, but I can recharge devices. OS: Windows XP Anyone know how to fix this problem? *Waits for Real and Lkr* -_- Edited February 20, 2010 by California Dreamin'

Guest California Dreamin'
What are you trying to use? My mouse, printer, and external HD/speakers. Nothing works when I plug it in.
Rajon Rondo
Go into your device manager, under control panel and post what is says under the usb hubs.

Owner Real Deal Posted February 20, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted February 20, 2010 1) Answer Lkr's question. 2) Does it seem to take a long time charging up your PS3 controller or your phone? Longer than usual, at least? 3) Are you restarting your computer with the mouse or speakers plugged in?

Nope, everything works fine except the mouse, speakers, and external HD won't work. The mouse light is on, but the mouse doesn't work. 3. I restarted the computer with and without the mouse and speakers and it still doesn't work. Edit: I also uninstalled all the USB ports, so Windows can reinstalled them, after the next start up, but it still doesn't work. Owner Real Deal Posted February 20, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted February 20, 2010 Update your system BIOS, update Windows, and run the Windows file checker. It sounds like Lkr could be right, especially if the stuff above doesn't work. You ruled out the mouse by using speakers that won't work. You ruled out driver issues by reinstalling the drivers. Not a good sign, really.
Lkr
you might also want to see if there are updated chipset drivers before you do a bios update. i'm one of those people that always crap their pants when doing a bios update
Guest California Dreamin'
I don't get the error anymore, but the devices still don't work. The speakers and mouse lights are on. <_<
Lkr
go to your laptop manufacturer's site, and download the chipset drivers and see if that helps

Lkr
before you buy a whole new laptop, do you at least have a warranty or something? it might even be cheaper to replace the motherboard even if you don't have warranty
Guest California Dreamin'
^ I have no choice, but to buy a new laptop because the laptop stopped working a few days ago. I only get the HP logo, when I turn the computer on and windows won't start. No point in spending hundreds of dollars on this laptop.
