AI gone?

Interesting.

Allen Iverson will not be with the Philadelphia 76ers on their current West Coast road trip, and there’s a strong movement within the organization to permanently break ties with him, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Iverson is with his family to deal with medical issues concerning his daughter, but his constant in-and-out of the lineup this season has led team officials to believe a permanent break is best for the organization. Sources said Iverson went to team officials over the weekend and said he needed to leave the team again.

Sources say Sixers coach Eddie Jordan addressed the players on Sunday, and told them there’s a chance Iverson may not return to the team. However, Sixers ownership, general manager Ed Stefanski and Jordan haven’t sat down and formally come to that decision, but sources with knowledge of the Sixers plans believe the franchise is leaning in that direction.

Guest The Situation

It's really not funny.

His little daughter has supposedly has a mysterious illness and it's getting worse by the day and they don't know if she is going to live.

Damn...I had no idea the personal reason for him leaving was this. Why not just keep him on the roster and wait it out? Philly isn't going to make the playoffs.

I'll be upset if they do that to him, unless he requests it, of course.

Iverson is only doing what's natural as a father. So of course, he values his daughter more than he values his sport, no matter how big his passion for the game is. If there is a chance that his own daughter might have some sort of permanent damage or even die, he's going to be there for her no matter what. The Sixers management should understand this. Whether Iverson is a true difference maker in winning games or not, they need to allow him to handle his personal matters before seeing him back on the court. AI is not leaving the team because he doesn't want to play. He has a legitimate excuse.

Iverson's personal matters should have no barring on whether the Sixers want to keep him or not. If that really is the sole reason for them wanting AI to leave, then that's just messed up, man.

The Sixers management should understand this.

They do.

"At this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball"

-Ed Stefanski

I wish the best for Iverson and his family.

More likely than not, it'll come down to AI if he wants to finish the season off as a Sixer. And seeing how this team really isn't going anywhere, I wouldn't be surprised if he did call it quits to spend more time with his family. I thought after signing AI he'd help the team and maybe compete for a shot at the playoffs. That certainly hasn't happened, and besides the initial excitement, his return hasn't really generated much buzz.
