If Twolves get the 1st pick

Recommended Posts

Trade it for a pick between the 2nd and 5th packaged with at least one great player, or trade the rights to rubio and/or sessions for other talent and keep the first pick and take Wall.

You take Wall, doesn't matter what you do after that. John Wall is a future superstar, a better prospect than what Rose was when he came out of Memphis. You don't pass it up.

Every team takes Wall.

There are various ways that the Wolves could do if they get the first pick.

Draft Wall. Trade Wall or Rubio for a 2nd or 3rd pick and maybe some extra players/cash considerations/future picks.

Draft Wall. Trade Rubio or Wall for a good veteran wing.

Trade the first pick. Who knows what they can get in return. Trade first + CHA's or Utah's pick for a mid-first rounder? Keep Rubio and get Aldrich/Whiteside and grab Gay from the free agency.

Etc. etc. It all depends on what happens. I would not be surprised if Jefferson is traded for a first round pick.

I would agree that you draft Wall. No other player has more potential and you cant go against that. I would also keep Rubio because he has a lot of upside to him too (hopefully, I want another good international player in the NBA).

John Wall is a can't-miss talent, and if you have the number one pick you draft him and alter whatever plans you previously had in place to accommodate him. This year's draft is weak on point guards, so the Wolves could then trade Rubio or Flynn to a team like Sacramento in a deal to get their lottery pick and grab a big like Cole Aldrich (Minny native), Donatas Motiejunas, or Greg Monroe, three guys who could fit in very well next to Al Jefferson and Kevin Love and display the skills you look for in a triangle offense. Of course, one of those guys could be around when the Wolves have their second lottery pick (via Charlotte), so a trade may not be needed.

Getting the #2 pick could almost be just as good for the Wolves. They would probably draft Evan Turner of Ohio State to play shooting guard, then pick up one of the above-mentioned bigs with Charlotte's pick, and if they're willing to spend, they could get Rudy Gay in free agency. When Rubio comes over, they could have him be a facilitating point guard and feed the ball to Jefferson, Gay, and Turner, and Flynn/Love/Brewer/Gomes? would lead a potentially strong bench. I'm beginning to love the Rubio pick, because he's got a lot of star power and marketability, making him an attractive player to build with in Minnesota or use as trade bait to get another player that fills their needs.
