Poe Posted March 5, 2010 Report Share Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) The Heat's story this year has been much like a Jekyl and Hyde where the team will blow out playoff contenders one night, then get blown out by a non-playoff team another. Overall, they are currently .500 with 31 wins, and 31 losses standing at the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. Though at this pace they could be likely to wind up with the same wins as last season with virtually the same team, they could wind up with a worse seed as the other conference teams grow stronger. Good news, though. So far, the Heat have had a fairly tough schedule in my opinion, but now, the schedule is starting to lighten up. A lot. Take a look: http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv40/The_Poe/Picture77.png Excluding the recent win against the Lakers, the schedule looks fairly normal with 11 home games and 9 road games to close off the year. What I like about it, though, is just about every single playoff contending team the Heat will face will be at their home court, except for Charlotte, Chicago, and Milwaukee - none of which are elite teams. After the game at home against Toronto in March 28th, the schedule really starts to get much easier. None of those teams are anywhere close to being .500, so the Heat could realistically take advantage and turn that into an easy 8 game winning streak. Starting with the confidence-boosting win against LA, hopefully the Heat will be able capitalize on their lightened upcoming schedule, regain the 5th seed, and build some good momentum heading into the playoffs. Seeing how Wade has turned it up a notch the past couple games, and seeing how this team is starting to come on top in close games, the Heat can be looking at a 47 win season. Tuesday might be the most important game all year.So far, the Heat were able to start off the toughest part of their remaining schedule with two close victories. If they can snag one against Charlotte on Tuesday, that would be killer. I can see it happening, too. Wade sort of paced himself a bit to start the season off, but now he's decided 'enough is enough', and he means business. I liked how he got in Beasley's face last game against the Hawks, and we all witnessed the result. Hopefully Wade and the team brings the same effort this tuesday against a tough opponent on the road, and carries it over for the rest of the season all the way through the playoffs. San Antonio, Orlando, and Charlotte, then the schedule begins to really get light. Hopefully the Heat will win at least 2 of the 3. Since Wade has stepped his game up tremendously recently, I do think 2 wins is still a good goal. Winning all three would be amazing, but the Heat are bound to lose at least one of these games. From what Wade said in his post-game interview against Philly, it seems like he's really counting on D-Wright and Bease to step up this week. Their game on Wednesday is at Orlando, who plays the Heat the very next day. The Bobcats have a first of a back-to-back at Atlanta the day after on Friday, and then play the Heat on Saturday. So basically, the Spurs are missing their last Finals MVP and may also try to preserve energy for their next game in Orlando, and the Magic and Bobcats are playing the Heat only 24 hours after playing another team battling for playoff position. If the Heat give 100%, and the right players step up, they could have a legitimate chance of winning all three. Poe Posted March 27, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 27, 2010 Looks like the Heat pulled off a 4 game winning streak since the hard-fought game against Charlotte, and are now only 2 losses behind the 5th-seeded Bucks. Next up is a game against a struggling Toronto team at home, then one more game at Detroit before heading into a month filled with nothing but below .500 teams. Imagine if the Heat win all the rest of their games this year, which looks like a very realistic goal looking at the schedule. Not only will they be 2 games below 50 wins (just short of a margin I actually predicted before the start of this year), but they'll have a 13 game winning streak to give them momentum into the playoffs.
