Dumb Free Agency Moves

1. The Bears thowing out close to $20 million/ year on a DE, TE, and RB when the team's offensive line, recieving corp, and secondary are all terrible.

==============================================

2. The Giants and Dolphins making Antrel Rolle and Karlos Dansby the highest paid players in NFL history at their respective postions. Neither of these players are even true Pro Bowlers (maybe with injuries and Super Bowl players missing out), and I don't consider either even Top 5 at their position in the league, so why are they being paid like future Hall of Famers? Both are solid starters, but ARZ's defense was never even that good. This move is actually really bad for us because Nick Collins deserves and is going to want more money than Rolle. I was suprised to find out that $7 million/ year would make Rolle the game's richest safety ever, but it is still a lot. I think Collins is worth that kind of money, but Rolle definitley isn't.

==============================================

3. This move may bother me the most. The Cardinals trading Anquan Boldin for 3rd and 4th round draft picks. I understand that they wanted to get rid of Boldin. ARZ couldn't pay him and L-Fitz, not to mention Breaston is a great player and very underrated. It's the first day of free agency, so why be so aggressive to trade away a great player who many would want to pursue and offer more to attain. They definitley could have gotten a second round pick and maybe even a first. I would have loved to see us get Boldin for a 2nd and a 4th. How could the Cardinal's expect to not recieve a better offer than a 3rd and a 4th, when Roy Williams was traded for a 1st and 3rd.

I agree with all except the Boldin move.

That list is full of bull[expletive]

How the hell how was the first day signing bad? Yes we still have some holes to fill, but we accomplished a lot in the FIRST day of free agency. Lets not forget this is an uncapped year, so the three players we signed, majority of the money will be payed off this year, leaving the next few years with reasonable yearly salary, in case the nfl cap did return. Peppers will bring an immediate impact for this season, creating mismatches on the defensive line which is crucial to have any success in the cover 2. We improved our offensive line by signing te Manumaleuna, who is a GREAT blocker. We also improved our running game greatly by bringing in Chester taylor, who can not only run the ball well, but can catch, block, and may even challenge forte for starting position. We still have some holes, obvious one is a safety and a bit thin at receivers, but we still got a long way left till the season starts, free agency/draft/trades. Bears were the winner on day one of the FREE agency imo.

Well, congrats to the Giants and Bears for spending money in an UNCAPPED year in order to improve their team.

Wish I could say the same for the Eagles, who, in an UNCAPPED year, are trying to save money. ROFL

I am thrilled that the Eagles did not spend that kind of money on Julius Peppers. I do wish they would have made more of a run at Kampman though.

I just think the Cardinals trading Boldin is stupid because any team could have offered that, it was basically a give away. I am sure they could have gotten a lot more had they attempted to look for trade options, it seems to me like the Ravens just came in first and offered picks and they jumped all over it.

Agree with the second 2 not so much the first. Although the third one is not a dumb 'free agency' move. I said the same thing about the Boldin trade comparing it to Roy Williams. With the NFL operating without cap restrictions for the near future why not make a run at Peppers? He doesn't fit in with our system unless u wanna play him at OLB and I'm happy with Spencer as is the organization.

I didnt know he was an Eagles fan.

See the Eagles are too arrogant and they always believe they have a good team. They are fine with being content and not going out and making a splash to put them over the top. I hate them for that.

We got a fair settlement for Boldin - at least that's the highest we were going to get. Seriously. Every single guy I've talked (six, ranging from e-mails, to PM's, etc. to some fairly knowledgeable people of the situation) to says that the Cards were, rightfully so, handicapped by Boldin's threats and teams took advantage of it. You can't come away from that losing your second best wide receiver and receive nothing. 3rd and 4th round picks are completely justifiable, and allow the Cards to do what they see fit in the draft. Whether that's staying put, or trading up for a tackle or Weatherspoon, I don't know.

Let's not forget Rod Graves is absolutely money with his mid-round picks.

I would have to agree with everything but the moves made by the Bears, they needed to make moves and they did. Getting the best play ing FA is never a bad thing. I do feel Bolidn should have gone for more but from what I have read that was the most they were going to get for him. Making Rolle, and Dansby the highest players in there posistions is a complete joke.

So the difference between boldin and cromatie is a 4th round pick

the difference between boldin and williams is a 4th vs a 1st?

Even if a move improves your team it doesn't make it a good move. Yeah the Cards won't hurt losing Boldin because they have good WR depth but they still should have and could have gotten more.

Of course they should have. Prioritizing your assets is a major part of any organization. Unfortunately for people around the NFL, they became to know Boldin about what he is - a prima donna who unfortunately, but predictably has started to feel the wear and tear of many NFL seasons.

I'm not saying Boldin isn't a borderline top-ten receiver today, because he is. But when you look at all the aforementioned factors, how he becomes a free agent this year, a move HAD to be made. None of these teams had to acquire Boldin. They already tried to hold out for more last year, asking for more then a second, and it didn't work. Why risk it, go past draft day and trade him for no immediate gains? It's not smart business.

Once again, people I've talked, including one INSIDE the Cardinals organization who chips in with one of the blogs I frequent, has said time and time again that the Cardinals WILL NOT maximize Boldin's value, because the market just simply isn't there. Why? I have no idea. Should the Cardinals attempted to get more? Maybe. We don't know that, because they made this deal.

As much as I love Boldin as a player, I'm not spending a second and fourth round selection price tag, after having to extend him for a 7 million-per-year cap hit for a guy who mysteriously has ticks and tacks to his body, missing too many games. If he can't be a factor like he wasn't in the past two playoff runs, then it was time for a deal.
