2010 NFL Draft

Man I had to go to work so I missed after the Iupati pick (which I love for the 49ers) so here are some random thoughts.

- What. The. [expletive]. Denver. Honestly, what the hell was that debacle? That was worse then the Browns last year. McDaniels legacy is placed solely on the shoulders of Tebow. I like the pick, honestly, and I like the fit because it's going to play to Tebow's strengths, but he massively overloaded for that pick. The Bebe pick leaves me scratching my head a bit, and they CANNOT rush him because he will bust. He needs to be slowly inserted into the line-up. I fully expect Orton to win the job but Tebow will see time.

- Dez Bryant? Major pick up for Dallas. Re-establishes themselves as the favorites in the NFC I think.

- Eh, Miami. Sergio is so much better then Odrick for you guys, but no doubt Odrick's a Parcells guy and I think he's going to be absolutely quality in Miami. Bring his lunch bucket to work every day.

- Jets D gets richer then they should be. Kyle Wilson has the ability to start from day one and he's going to be fantastic across from the best corner in the NFL.

- Raiduhs did something good today. I applaud "Al Davids" (Emmitt Smith). Kirk Morrison has somewhat regressed and is better suited in a back-up role and McClain brings the lumber! Although I do worry about him in a 4-3, it honestly looks like Oakland's a 3-4 at this point in time.

- Oh my lanta, Jacksonville. Ugh. Odrick is a better fit then [expletive]in' Alualu. Just brutal. Words cannot express.

- Philly made up a great trade up, I love Graham, he's a DPOY.

- Seattle = best draft thus far. Best tackle in the draft and a great playmaker in the Secondary..

That's it for now, but I'll add some more, plus my in-depth draft grades coming probably Monday sometime. Enjoy the rest of the draft everyone!

Either way, what about his game makes you think he'll be a good pro safety?

He has good read and react skills. He is great in run support. He has tremendous straight line and recovery speed. He is rarely out of position. Great at blanketing deep receivers. Good acceleration. Good change of direction. Good tackler in the open field. Good at eluding blocks. Long arms. Explosive tackler. Freakish athleticism, speed, and size.

Does he choose to lay a destructive hit than pick the ball off? Absolutely. A lot of his lack of INT's had to do with this. A lot of it also had to do with his playing centerfield at USC and teams simply not throwing at him. A lot of ignorant and amateur scouts will look at his INT totals and say he doesn't have ball skills... it simply isn't true. He might rather to hit than intercept, but that's just his killer instinct. If he gets the right dbacks coach at the next level, the sky is the limit. You have to admit he has the highest ceiling of any safety in the draft.

I am drunk and don't really care... I just think Mays gets a bad wrap for playing in a system that didn't feature the pretty stats for him. He will be a great pro... in my stupid opinion. Whoever gets him is getting a beast.

Regressed in your opinion, do you think that the Giants are better off trading a 3rd or 4th for Morrison or drafting a Sean Lee or Brandon Spikes in the 2nd (or 3rd)?

Agree with you there iBoldin. Loved what Seattle did and I would've rather taken Jerry Hughes over Odrick. Word is Kindle may need microfracture surgery. There's no way he doesn't get taken in round 1.

As for the Mays post. His want to lay the big hit style is what gets him beat. Just ask Golden Tate. Mays' open field tackling can be inconsistent at times as well and like I said, he needs work on his fundamentals there.

I agree, but I don't think that's a terribly difficult thing to teach him at the next level. It's all about responsibility. He has all the tools.

Possibly, but there are questions about his work ethic as well that popped up during the Senior Bowl. I'm just not sure about his potential as a safety. I think he could do serious work at OLB though.

Well, I think we can both agree that he's an open book and nobody knows how he'll end up :)

How the Giants win back the hearts of their fans on day 2 (IMO):

Trade 2nd for Albert Haynesworth

Trade Osi Umenyiora for 2nd

Draft Sean Lee or Brandon Spikes

Trade 3rd or 4th for Kirk Morrison

Draft Brian Price

1- why would the redskins want to trade haynesworth within the division (the eagles thing is a totally different situation)

2- why would the giants want to trade a second for haynesworth

3- i agree that osi should be traded, but will they get a second for him?

1. The Redskins want Haynesworth gone, hopefully they won't mind where he goes. They might settle for a 3rd outside of the divison, but I have to think Shanny will take an inner-division deal as long as it's a 2nd

2. Haynesworth is a franchise changing DT when he's motivated. Hopefully Washington not wanting him will motivate.

3. They should. He's average 9.5 sacks per year in his career, and even had 7 last year in an injury year. If they don't get a 2nd, hang on to him!

Brandon Spikes is the perfect fit in the middle of that defense. I don't think Morrison's as versatile as Fewell would like. Maybe not.

Haynesworth and Osi are off the trade block now. Kirk Morrison is going no where to.

Drafting Spikes or Brian Price would be a good pick up.

I just watched a video on Pierre-Paul, he sounds super duper dumb. He said "I likeded it". He also quit basketball once and football twice in high school. Hopefully he wants to work...

To be honest, I dont like JPP.

Guy only had one year in legit college football competition in the Big East and had one good year. From past picks that I remember that came out of the draft after one good year and were drafted early, they usually became busts.

When's your next pick ECN?

Their next pick is the 49th pick.

They are said to have been looking at Taylor Mays and Sergio Kindle, but I'm not too sure who they like.

Also, they moved up to get Anthony Davis because they thought that the Dallas Cowboys might move up to get him, and I think a 4th round pick was worth the move.

Also, they would have chosen Mike Iupati if he was there at #13.

After watching the San Fransisco 49er's my entire life, I know how damn important an offensive-line is, and with Alex Smith having better protection and keeping the same offensive-coordinator, he should flourish this year.

Mike Iupati is an absolute mauler, and Anthony Davis is said to have the most upside out of any tackle in the draft.

Boldin, I'd be interested to get your opinion on Taylor Mays and where you project him.

Best fits the deep safety in the Tampa 2 where he can play the same role he did in his junior year at USC. That's one of the good things Mays does. Covers well deep, no home-run hits. Solid value in the middle of the second, but some team will still overdraft him in the first few picks, I'm thinking.

Of course, I been saying it for so long that the Panthers should definitely go after a solid QB in the 2nd round. Matt Moore showed great signs at the end of the season showing he can be a starter but you need to start over with those the great RB duo they have. Colt McCoy would be perfect there, they should definitely also try to trade down to get Clausen it would be huge
